To be fair - I 100% agree he’d be an improvement on Agyei and Winnall

I just don’t think he materially changes our style of play. If we start him over Taylor, or if we need to change the pattern of play in a game, bringing him on for Matty won’t change how we play.

If we did sign him, like everyone else I’d be excited to see a big name with international pedigree playing for us. But my preference would be recruiting someone who gives us a different dynamic to our attacking play

Fair points - but I think Defoe does offer something a little different to Matty in that he's not going to be getting in the faces of the CBs and will be more clever in getting in the pockets of spaces. Matty is a great striker, but I do think he gets caught up trying to do the Mackie job a little too much at times. Defoe's experience could also be a huge help to young Dan too if he were to stick around.

ANYONE is a “big upgrade on Winnall and Agyei.”

I'll go get my boots, 7 goals in 10 games at under 12s level the one season I played striker, I'm ready. I can also play fullback too I tick the KR box of refusing to sign actual fullbacks and converting everyone else into one.

Defoe has played 9 minutes of competitive football this season which makes Winnall's 394 look incredible.

If he is match fit/up to speed then great, but we cannot afford to sign someone who takes a few weeks to get up to fitness (like when Winnall came in), especially as Browne (if he signs) is unlikely to be 100% straight away.

We'd need another option as well - a third striker.

If we are talking about ageing strikers, what about Andy Carroll. He is available after being released by Reading, younger than Defoe and is match fit. Not saying we are in for him or that he would want to come but he has loads of experience and would give us something different.

That's a better shout than Defoe. Both are London based which gives us a chance over the likes of Sunderland - in Defoe's case.

Has he left Reading?
I know his contract has technically expired but I read as recently as yesterday, that they were hopeful of extending his contract until the end of the season.
