Yet another example of KR’s intransigence and lack of tactical awareness. Ridiculous substitutions when we could have won the game. Gorrin off? Sykes off? So that’s the two most important players yesterday. Wombles must have been laughing. Change of formation? What?! KR trying to be clever again. Winnall? FFS. Let’s invite them to attack down the flanks and open us up at will. Give me strength.
That’s now three away games against the weaker teams in the league. One point. One goal leads thrown away. God help us against Wycombe next Saturday.

Anthony Forde is not a right back.

If we lose Stevens, we have a backup GK in Eastwood.

If we lose Thorniley and Moore, we have backup CBs in Mousinho and McNally.

If we lose Taylor, we have backup CFs in Agyei and Winnall.

If we lose Whyte, we have loads of options.

If we lose Long however - erm - we could play Hanson or Forde there I guess. I mean, neither is a full time RB but they can do a job.

If we lose Seddon, we have - well, what we do is play Long there and move Forde to RB. Foolproof!

Why, why, why KR has not got proper back up for the last two seasons for full backs is mind boggling to me. Every other position has an adequate backup who can play that position. The full back second choice options are square pegs in round holes. The lack of respect shown to those positions when we have backup in every other is downright stupid.

If our back up LB is actually our first choice RB, the recruitment hasn’t been right. We’ve prioritised other areas above it.

Agree. It's all a bit boring and slightly odd. We played well but missed all our chances bar one. They played well and took all their chances. They have their own ground, which is about 400 yards from their old ground. And raised the money themselves. We lost our old ground through financial mismanagement of a well- meaning owner, and now rent a three sided slum next to a sewage farm. Meanwhile, on the pitch they look like they'll end mid table. We'll probably be top six. I had to sit with AFCW, who we were all perfectly friendly, even when they realised I was Oxford. And they were very complimentary about us, and thought we could well go up. So can we stop slagging AFCW off?
its the same any opposition fan comes on here trying to be clever, they then deserve some stick back.

We lost a game that we should have got at least a draw from
Taylor seems woefully out of sorts if Winnall had missed that header in the first half I hate to think what this thread would be like
Having said that I think it was Taylor’s only chance and many times we got to the byline but the final ball in wasn’t good enough. He does need more support
The other thing that springs to mind is we were undone by set pieces and this happens in games we did start to look a threat ourselves from set pieces last year but that isn’t happening now
The most worrying thing is that when we let teams back into games you can see us wobble
Well done to Wimbledon they took full advantage

As for hoof ball, have you seen the third goal

I did.

As I say, as regards the stadium, just some fans being a bit sour after a painful defeat.

From our perspective we had some decent chances to wrap it up in the first half. Taylor missed a great opportunity from a decent ball in from Henry and Henry‘s effort hitting the post.

On the whole we were the better team but poor defending of set pieces cost us the game.

It happens, it’s annoying, it’s football.

What was wrong?
Coaches being held up for over 45 minutes because Wimbledon hadn’t unlocked the gate, ordering food at the outlet paying for it then being told they’ve sold out so offer you an alternative which we accept but then that’s sold out also but they were quick enough to take your money

You won the battle but we will win the war. You'll finish mid-table at best. You've also built a shite new ground in an industrial state in the a**e-end of Wimbledon. When our Indonesian Billionaires finally complete the takeover we'll be in a state of the art stadium in the city of dreaming spires, and you'll still be playing hoofball in an industrial estate.
That is the saddest post in this entire thread. it actually made me cringe.

Well that was a frustrating game..

I was sat with the Wimbledon fans in front of where the subs were warming up. The only advantage of being 'billy no mates' in the home end is that I wasn't distracted and could properly watch the game.

I wasn't that impressed with our first half. We kept getting caught out trying to bring the ball out from the back, with their nippy number 16 causing us issues. We didn't create loads of clear cut chances, and then when we did Taylor missed a sitter.

I really thought we'd put a stronger second half performance in but it just didn't happen, and the substitutions and formation change completely backfired. Holland for Williams seemed logical, Williams put a shift in but it just didn't happen for him. The formation change with the other subs totally screwed us. It looked to force Brannagan more to the left and that just didn't work. If we'd stayed with the same formation then I'd have bought Kane on for Gorrin and chucked Agyei up top.

I don't see Agyei as some sort of saviour but he can get a goal out of nothing. With the team not playing well it was that goal out of nothing we needed. Taking Sykes off was nuts, he was the tricky one causing problems for them. He was professional when being subbed and there were no hysterics but he was clearly annoyed. If Robinson wanted to change formation then what about 3-5-2? Forde could have gone to right wing back, and Seddon could have played down the left. That would have given us good delivery from out wide, a compact middle 3 and 2 centre forwards feeding off each other.

Sitting 4 rows from the front I could hear what was being said on the pitch, and we do still seem quiet. I'm still not sure who grabs players by the nuts and gets them going when up against it. It's not all about shouting and fouling, so maybe a couple of players are 'leaders' but it's not obvious who they are from the sidelines. A bit of a random thing I noticed sitting so close to our subs warming up was that Winnall looked really invested in the game. A few times he pointed out things happening on the pitch to the subs, the other subs were just doing their usual stuff. He just seemed to have a good attitude.

Robinson mentioned our weaknesses at set pieces is partly down to us missing Long and Ruffels, the problem is he had all summer to sort that out. The squad is unbalanced, we always seem to have good numbers of wingers so why could we not have 2 proper right backs and left backs fighting it out? The pizza trophy, injuries etc will give a 'back up' full back the player the chance to play and fight for a first team spot. I don't buy the fact that no full backs would come as back up etc. Full backs seems to be the one area where he thinks he can fudge it with non specialist back up and I think that's a mistake. Is Cooper really going to get game time? That is one spot that could have been freed up.

Finally I'm not really up for points scoring about their ground; whatever you think of Wimbledon they have managed to find a way back to their spiritual home and we're not in a position to say too much (at the moment!!). However them only giving us 1000 tickets in a stand that apparently holds 1465 was a shambles. They should have been easily able to steward 1400 away fans in a recently designed stand, seeing loads of empty spaces in the away end was frustrating.
We gave you what the police allowed us to

I shouldn’t get too bogged down with some of the sour notes on here. Just post match frustration and the usual oppo fan banter.

Congratulations on the win.

As for the ground, regardless of the comments on here, it is a testament to Wimbledon fans that you got it off the ground.

I am amazed at some of the comments on here, given our own predicament.

Exactly, their ground while it may be on the small scale you can see that it would be easy to extend the capacity, it is also in the heart of the community and not some uninspiring out of town bowl. We can't use the phrase wait until our billionaires build us this amazing stadium in the city of dreaming spires when there isn't even any plans out there, nor have the horses mouth actually said they are going to build anything.

On to the game reflecting after a nights sleep. First half we should of buried more chances and another day we would of went in 3-0 up. Second half we invited them back on to us and they equalised, Holland misses a golden opportunity and they go down the other end and score. We let Wimbledon win by letting 2 set pieces in and not burying chances and not converting or making anything happen on the 10 corners we had. I do worry for the Wycombe game now as another second half performance like that and the fans will turn on Karl even more. There's being beat by a better team and there's throwing away a game. This was the latter.

I’ll add a fifth point which may not have been discussed/mentioned but is pretty obvious and we’ve had this before under Karl.

We look spent after an hour. The levels look to fall off of a cliff after 60-65 minutes , substitutions occur and we unravel.

Cambridge, Bolton, Crewe, Wimbledon - even Charlton at home and to a degree versus Lincoln last week - the intensity drops and we lose control of the game. Hopefully fitness improves with games but it’s worrying.

Wycombe will be a huge test next Saturday and will know all about our weaknesses which they will try and exploit to the full.
Yet a couple of seasons ago we were super fit and regularly getting last minute winners. The fitness coach has changed I think?

Beware! Slightly negative post alert!!

We are seeing the same issues that we saw at the beginning of last season, but it's not quite as simple as some are saying.

In the first dozen games last season we generally played well. We created lots of chances but didn't take them. It took Taylor several games to find form and our build up play didn't give us the end product it should have. Because we wasn't scoring when on top of games, the pressure increased on the defence knowing that one mistake, would cost us.
Fast forward to this season and we're in doing the exact same thing. Too many errors, too many bad decisions, not enough leadership in both boxes. The difference is that in the spells when we are dominating we look a really classy side, and that has given us enough to double our points total so far, bit the negatives remain.

Robinson spoke about being stronger as a team, and in general we do have more physical players. But I don't think that's where the problem lies. It's the mental strength that we are lacking. The ability to see out games, to make the right decisions at the right times, that desire to put your body on the line to get the result. We're far too quiet. I love Elliott Moore, but as @Ricky Otto said, he is too quiet. Senior players like Taylor, Henry and Gorrin barely say a word. We're missing the likes of Sam Long, and (don't shoot me!) Jamie Mackie, and Sam Winnall to a certain degree. They scream and shout and demand 100%. I really don't mind seeing players bollock each other on the pitch if it stamps out mistakes and gets everyone focused.

Cam Brannagan would be the natural choice as captain but I worry that it impacts on his game and he hasn't done as well when given the armband. As someone else has said, Kane looks a more natural leader, but I don't think it would be fair to add the captaincy to someone who will be trying to get his game back. So maybe it's more a case of getting the rest of the team to step up rather than expecting Elliott to rally the troops.

We need to get right back to basics. Defending corners and set pieces, and the general organisation of the defence. We need to look at our strengths at the top of the pitch. Loopy balls in from the wing will never work. Look at how many assists Long and Ruffels got last season by getting to the byline and driving the ball across the goal. Winnall gets dog abuse, but Taylor is offering no more at the moment. Holland caught in several minds yesterday, Whyte previously. Even Henry who was wonderful last week seems to get caught between when to shoot and when to pass. Sykes has turned his game around but has made errors if judgement himself in both boxes too.

This week I'd have the team working on defending and attacking set pieces much better and working on our strengths in the final third. But I'd also get them away off the pitch and getting the mindset strong individually and as a team. And that includes the management team too.

No one will be surprised to see a bit of a defence for Robinson, but I'm not sure that the substitutions yesterday were that bad. Holland side foots the ball home and we win 2-1. The formation had us creating chances for fun against Bolton and it was not unreasonable to think that the game was there for the taking. It didn't work, and as much as Holland fluffed his chance, Robinson needs to reflect on the same.

The good news is that we're far from being a poor side. When we tick we look as good as any team I've seen in league one over the last few years. We will beat far more teams than we get beaten by. But being an entertaining top 8 side isn't the objective. We need to have the ugly winning mentality too. We need 11 leaders on the pitch and we need to know when we go through the gears and when he shut up shop. Get that right and we can get the success we all crave.

We lost. End of.
Two things that we clearly must be working to improve on from today onwards…

1/ Finishing. We have to score more goals from the numerous chances created.

2/ Set piece defending. We have to stop the oppositions numerous chances from being created.

We play the hoof ball champions next week and you can be sure that they will be launching it in at every opportunity. They’ll already know that we have problems.

The thing is, we are a very attractive side to watch but we need to play ugly sometimes.
Let’s hope that Karl & co are busy drilling the s**t out of them in the week!😳

Exactly that - defending (especially organisation of) is woeful. Consistent wins won't happen until that embarrassing shambles is sorted.

Could it be down to Forde, Seddon not as good in the air as Long, Ruffles?

A fair summary but I’d add a third - or an appendix to point 2 - set piece attacking.

I don’t expect us to be scoring from every single corner or free kick nor getting much change from a 7’ Wimbledon defence but I do expect some ideas or routines that create opportunities. We looked impotent from our corners and more often than not turned over possession.

Wimbledon showed that a set pieces can win you matches.

putting someone on the goal line when defending set pieces ( ala Gary Smart) isn't an alien concept.... Taylor cleared one off the line in the first half when it was 0-0 .... according to Forde, in yesterdays OM ,"U's are crystal clear on roles..." ..... so why is no-one given a role of occupying a place on the goal line for set pieces?

also, getting shots on target when attacking, needs a bit of extra practice!

Could it be down to Forde, Seddon not as good in the air as Long, Ruffles?
No. It's the lack of proper back ups in those positions. And that's down to KR. He persists with utility players as the back ups but they don't understand the role as well. Long should not be our back up LB, that's ridiculous, he's a right footed player, he shouldn't be played on the left! The recruitment has not been right again. That's KR's fault I'm afraid.

Could mcguane do a job at right back instead of Forde?

He has a good footballing brain and is quite athletic.

I'm surprised we have this problem again after the failed Clare experiment last season.
