Transfer targets?

Thomas is technically decent and can finish. But I will be quite happy to see him go. He will get a two year deal in L2 and will do well there. Too easily bullied in L1 imo. Obika will be fine as a squad/impact player. We need someone of the quality of marquis of donny (may be a pain but a vv effective one) if we hope to be top six next season. Add two strikers, keep kane and add a decent midfielder (not Mowatt thank you) and we will be vv competitive next season. But only if we keep Nelson, Ledson, Rothwell, Eastwood!!!
I dont agree ref Thomas. Before Payne exited he had an impressive strike rate, running onto his through balls. Though I am not sure he is target man that KR wants to convert crosses into goals. I am not sure. I agree on Kane. I rate him as L1 player.

Really? I think he has been dreadful. His scoring record is poor, he will only occasionally jump for a header, his first touch is often poor and he can't retain the ball. Add that to the fact that he is often on his heels so is second to any ball and I am struggling to say much positive about him. He looks like a big lad who will cause opposition defenders a whole heap of trouble - but simply doesn't.
Yes really. I think he holds ball up well. 1/3 goals per game record as per his career. I think he has been under rated and unfairly targeted.

He’s bound to get some stick, because he came from the scum. I agree he holds the ball up well, but his performances aren’t consistent enough for me.

So for me it’s a no thanks.

Van Kessel

Thanks for your services, but your not going to cut it at this level.

Reckon we may loan Todd Kane In for the season again before negotiating a contract in January. Would love him to stay permanently but reckon Chelsea would want a big fee for him.

What is Kane’s contract? Why a hefty fee?

In the league this year he has scored 5 goals in 30 games. That is one in six. I don't think he is being 'targeted' at all - I would have been absolutely delighted if he had been a huge success wherever he had previously played. People always say a player is bring made a scapegoat when he get criticised for under-performing.

He's got a year left at chelsea. Just feel that Chelsea may ask for more then we could afford to spend on a RB.

24, only a year left, enjoying playing football here. I don't think Chelsea will demand a big fee for a loaned out RB with no hope of hitting the first team. Look at the price we paid for Brannagan and he'd actually played for the first team.

I've got a feeling he'll sign on permanently.

Possibly although a full back who is no spring chicken and is plying his trade currently in the third tier isn’t an obvious money spinner - particularly for a club which is swimming in tens of millions from TV rights, global brand, a Russian financier etc etc.

I wonder if it might be similar to other deals we’ve done in recent years with a relatively modest fee but demand on a decent sell-on percentage to cover their bases.

He's probably on £8-£10k a week so I wouldn't have thought he would give that up to sign for us.

Possibly, but it'd be interesting to know what Brannagan was on also. The promise of first team regular football and moving up to a Championship club after a good season at Oxford may tempt him, especially if he enjoys playing football for KR.

I have to say I do feel sorry for both Obika and Thomas. As someone rightly said, Jack Payne was assisting for fun earlier in the season, it took until KR arrived for that void to be replaced by Henry - who in turn is bagging the goals that will keep us up.

The unfortunate criticism of both Obika and Thomas stems from a side that has no width, no pace and seems unable to cross a football into the area - as has been pointed out by the manager on several occasions since his arrival. Starve your strikers of service and they won't score goals.

Now the boo-boys have got no one to target now Gino sits on the bench, they've re-directed their anger to Obika. The ironic cheering when he headed a ball or three in the second half on Saturday was the only criticism of the day for me. When will people understand firing long high balls to a striker with no one around him, isn't likely to end productively?

That is true to some extent. As you rightly say, we have little pace, little width and the crossing (both from a moving ball and a free kick) is quite lacking in quality.

However, while Thomas is not my favourite ever player by a long stretch it is very noticeable how in recent weeks he has upped his game. He may still be starved of supply, but his chasing and closing down has improved hugely - which means that sometime we are defending much higher up the pitch. He is quite prepared to put himself in harm's way if necessary, and spent considerable time helping the defence out on Saturday. That is an improvement in attitude and application that I am afraid to say I have not noticed from Obika. The cheering in the second half when Obika won a header or two was a bit unfortunate, but they were the two or three times he actually got his feet off the ground - which made it even more frustrating that he didn't seem to bother the rest of the time, and spent much of his time jogging about as if it was a match that didn't matter that much. It takes no great skill or ability to jump, work hard and give your all: that should be the minimum at any time, no matter whether you are threatened with relegation or not, and that is the least that most supporters will accept.

There might have been some 'boo boys' being vocal, but I can assure you that there were a lot of people around me who didn't cheer Obika ironically but who were very unhappy indeed with his performance.

Obika is far too weak IMHO, seems to be self confidence. Needs to be more agressive.

Thomas has periods when he's impressive but its never consistent.

Thats been our issue really, none of the strikers has hit any sort of consistency. Lets hope the front line is being re-built.

I'd also keep Mehmeti, I've got a sneaky feeling, once he gets a run his quality would shine and perhaps would be a good back up option but saying that, I doubt very much KR will keep him

The only thing regarding Kane is that Robinson has said he is targeting defensive full backs. The reason we have Kane and Riccy/Ruffels bombing forwards is that we have no one pacy on the wings at the moment.

KR may be doing good by Kane at the moment, but I don't think he would be among his top RB targets in the summer.

Brannagan will probably end up being worth the fee, Kane maybe less so.

Your point on Mehmeti sounds very similar to what people said about Hoban. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out for various reasons - that’s where we are in my view and would be very surprised to see him here next season.
