I'd Be all out to move Hanson on and Keep Clare.
Thought he was just hitting a bit of form on the right hand side before he went for a Burton. Quite good right hand side and midfield cover. Lets face it Hanson has no real future here best for both if he goes.
However we don't know what's been going on behind the scenes and probably never will so it's ridiculous to speculate..
You need a willing buyer to sell someone

Hanson will be an OUFC player til the day his contract runs out, and there's nothing we can do about it."

Even if we can loan him out for a third of his money, then its better than him being here warming the bench. But we should have been marketing him. As stated its doing him no good being with us but I appreciate that we would likely have to financially assist a full time move, but I think we should.
If it was me, I'd terminate Hanson's contract, pay him off, and move on. He has proven he's not good enough for a league 1 title push.

He was playing full back for his previous club, when we signed him. Hearts fans said, it was the only position he had played well for them!
anyway if you don’t get on with the manager, for footballing reasons, attitude or personality clash, there is only one winner.
I read some articles about this. He initially was tried as a standard right back by Hearts and was viewed as a failure. The system was changed and he was then played as a an attacking right back (maybe wingback) and in that position he was more successful. That said in interviews with him around that time he always said he preferred playing in midfield.

I think given a bit of digging it should have been clear he was not the right fit for our right back. Its a shame we hardly got to see him played to his strengths.

Then fine, pay it and let him go, that's a saving isn't it ! and gives another player / youngster an opportunity instead of someone who very few have any confidence in.
Far better to spread £4k a week out over a year than pay it (or a good percentage of it) in one go. He’s entitled to another £150k-£200k from Ox and he’s not giving that up easily. Why should he? His best options will be a quarter of his salary here based in his performances.

Even as a wing back you still need to be able to defend! I think clare’s problem is he has played lots of positions for all of his clubs, including up front. He has never nailed down a position.

Signed as an attacking RB. Got shown up when defending.

Management quickly deflected all the blame over to the player.

Player then shines in his favoured position and attracts praise.

Loan club and fans would love to sign him. Appreciate they can’t due to financing and the need for a major squad upheaval.

Returns to parent club where he is slated by the manager who signed him. Instantly knocking any confidence and feel good factor gone in an instant.

Trains well in pre season. Impresses in his appearances.

Ox fans think he is exactly the type of player Robinson described in being powerful and athletic..

Ox struggling to bring players in, let a young potential future big transfer walk out the door for peanuts.

Ox that.

Life as an OUFC fan.
Does Clare not take any responsibility for how this all unfolded then?

Heard exactly this from couple of Hearts supporters I know.

That assumes somebody wants him!
OK if you were at another club, would you take him?
And then do some scouting and read this forum. Would you take him?
I would guess that the club have tried to offload him. Personally I would be happy with the club paying 50% of his salary to see if he can make it at another club ( he will need to try and find a club next season anyway).

A lot of double standards on here. some want to blame KR for the Clare situation and say the manager dented his confidence etc etc then in the next breath one of our players is wanting to be to pushed out the door as fast as possible. I bet Hanson is so looking forward to playing in front of our crowd again !

How was it clear?
Somebody on here posted stats showing that he had played right back as much as he had wing back, CM I his career.
Hearts fans seem to think he was best as a right back.
I assume that there was a load of digging the club did.

shaping up to be yet another uninspiring pre season transfer window ..... key players from last season leaving/ sold (at a knock down), and as yet still no replacements .... with only a few weeks till the seasons kicks off

its f*****g groundhog day

Yes but Hanson definitely does / doesn't read the forum so it will / won't be fine

I never understand how it's all KR's fault that Clare was signed to play RB. Surely this came up when agreeing the contract that that was where we planned to play him?! And he agreed to move to us knowing this. There could be a number of reasons why Clare may want to leave (I'm still yet to see a reliable source confirm anything other than repeating the initial report), but it won't be down to KR playing him at RB because that's the position he joined us to play.

KR basically said if he wants to play midfield he has to show he can and earn his spot. Given the immense quality we have in the middle of the park with Brannagan, McGuane, Henry, Gorrin and arguably Sykes too, I don't think that's at all unreasonable either.

No it's all Kr's fault like most other things in the eyes of some on here

I'm amazed that some haven't accused him of sneezing on players to give them covid just so he has an excuse incase we lose a game before Christmas!!!

Clare has gone from being our worst ever signing who could "f**k off back to scotland" as one poster beautifully put it, to Iniesta in 6 months!!!!

We'll probably never know the background. He may feel unappreciated, not get on with Karl, whatever. We may really need the money for someone else. We're pretty well stocked with midfielders though not with feisty ones. Wonder if this is what Karl was annoyed about? It could mean that Sykes isn't leaving.
I'd rather that lightweight Sykes, with no end product left than Clare.
