Even if we can loan him out for a third of his money, then its better than him being here warming the bench. But we should have been marketing him. As stated its doing him no good being with us but I appreciate that we would likely have to financially assist a full time move, but I think we should.

What makes you think we haven't been 'marketing' him?

He'll be here for the season, a fairly capable reserve or substitute - you need such players, though ideally you aren't paying them a top end contract
That worked well last year  Poor right back, poor midfield, I think he did ok at centre back. But honestly if he has to play more than a small handful of games we will be here again next year. So why not move him on, I can think of backup players for every position in the squad already that I would use as replacements in front of him.

I'm starting to sound like I've got something against the lad, I don't, but as stated it's not good for us or his career at the moment.

If we have then 3 out of 10 please try harder, he's still here.
Why would anyone want to loan or buy him?
He's 26 in November, and has only just made 100 league appearances.
Only made 30 league appearances once in a season, his first with us. And since then has made 23 whilst being involved in two L1 play-off squads.
He's played more league games for us than he did for Derby in 5 seasons and that includes adding a loan spell at Wigan, yet we as a fanbase are really not bothered about whether he stays or goes. I can't see any attraction for a club in our league or below in signing him based on performances here, and that's before you add in the salary.

Previously, my hope was that Burton might have come in for him as that's where he is from, but seems very unlikely.

Difficult to market a player who has consistently struggled to stay fit, and when has been fit hasn't been able to come close to breaking into our first 11, and when he's needed has failed to put in a stand out performance of note in 82 appearances for OUFC, with 0 goals and 1 assist. If any club went in for Hanson on loan they'd have to be truly desperate because he's not a youngster who needs experience, he's not an older player who would been seen as a step above the level when fit, he's an ok player in a few positions but a standout in none. Put simply, he's just not worth the risk of a loan to any club.

Ironically the only manager to take that sort of risk is KR…

I'd Be all out to move Hanson on and Keep Clare.
Thought he was just hitting a bit of form on the right hand side before he went for a Burton. Quite good right hand side and midfield cover. Lets face it Hanson has no real future here best for both if he goes.
However we don't know what's been going on behind the scenes and probably never will so it's ridiculous to speculate..
Hanson has a year left on his contract.
I assume that we can't shift him out.
If we have been offered £350k for Clare there is the difference

So what do you have in mind for Hanson ?
It's not a matter of what the club want.
He may occasionally sit on the bench and play for U23s as an oner age player.
He will almost certainly run his contract down ( unless a Club particularly wants him and we pay a large part of his salary)

I suspect that the club has been marketing him.
Who do you think would take him? Would you at another club?

I think its a little unfair to say that nobody want's him. I think there are quite a few clubs who would take him, but not top half of league 1.
I understand that will mean we have to offer an incentive to move him out. we have to accept it was a transfer that didn't work. wipe your face and move on. he could do a good job in league 2 and help rebuild his career.

Apart from the fact that KR was determined to turn him into a full back and he clearly was a fish out of water. Went to Burton in his natural position and was an immediate success. Can perfectly see why returning to his parent club might not fill him with joy and optimism.
He was playing full back for his previous club, when we signed him. Hearts fans said, it was the only position he had played well for them!
anyway if you don’t get on with the manager, for footballing reasons, attitude or personality clash, there is only one winner.

Then fine, pay it and let him go, that's a saving isn't it ! and gives another player / youngster an opportunity instead of someone who very few have any confidence in.

Signed as an attacking RB. Got shown up when defending.

Management quickly deflected all the blame over to the player.

Player then shines in his favoured position and attracts praise.

Loan club and fans would love to sign him. Appreciate they can’t due to financing and the need for a major squad upheaval.

Returns to parent club where he is slated by the manager who signed him. Instantly knocking any confidence and feel good factor gone in an instant.

Trains well in pre season. Impresses in his appearances.

Ox fans think he is exactly the type of player Robinson described in being powerful and athletic..

Ox struggling to bring players in, let a young potential future big transfer walk out the door for peanuts.

Ox that.

Life as an OUFC fan.

You can’t help but wonder if Robinson has taken Clare failing at right back to much to heart, it was an experiment that didn’t work out but there was no need to throw the baby out with the bath water if he could revert back to his more natural midfield role.

Ah well, it’s farewell Sean Clare, we barely knew you.

I have no doubt that when his contract is up he'll be able to find a new club no problem! It's more a case that the loan system is most often used to try and get players that improve your squad a lot and are at a level you wouldn't be able to get permanently. Hanson is a steady player, but he's not going to improve another team enough (that can afford enough of his wage to be worth it) to waste a loan spot on is more what I meant. I would guess his agent won't be helping matters either, with Hanson on the wage he is the agent will be happy enough to sit and wait out the contract and often the agent holds the power.
