Home Match Day Thread +++ 10/04/2018 OUFC v Fleetwood Town Match Day Thread +++

Mowatt? We've missed his set pieces. He needs to start just for that especially with Henry missing.

Yep. He made a prat of himself against Portsmouth and will be off penalty duty, but he’s got to come in somewhere otherwise we have a series of identical midfielders and no one with that flash of inspiration to do anything with it. Mowatt is about the only creative thing we have since Jack Payne left.

Nervous about today’s game. Fleetwood in reasonable form and they have a good record over us, they have an experienced head in Sheridan leading them now and I’m worried that we don’t have the resources to get past them. Another draw would be welcomed but a win – wow, that would release a lot of pressure to hit the 50 mark. Anything gained in the remaining five matches would be a real bonus.

I think you’ll find that a win will release all the pressure to hit 50 points!

People might think I need to up my medication but I do believe there’s been evidence of small green shoots of improvement in the last few games. Neat football in midfield has, at times, been present for most of the season but in two of the last three games the defence has been markedly improved. Six corners successfully defended against Scunny and a clean sheet against Oldham when we could have buckled a few weeks ago. It’s just that final bloody third up front that needs improving and hopefully that will come with confidence slowly building. Hence, I think we’re close to things clicking into place - an early goal would help no end - and somebody is due a bit of a hiding from us. Why not tonight?? So I’m going 4:0 tonight. Obika with an early goal, then Dickie and a Mowatt fee kick before half-time. Rothwell to wrap things up second half.

1-1 with Napa getting his first goal for us and McAleney popping up inevitably to spoil the party late doors. How they arent odds on though I dont know and a serious bogey team for us. Still maintain 47 will be enough anyway. 48+GD.... and breathe

I really do agree with you about those small green shoots and the defensive improvement but am loathe to say so in case it all goes horribly wrong again. I think Dickie's form has been really important in this. I've never really gone along with this someone is due a hiding soon theory - even when we've been playing much better than now and creating but not converting loads of chances. But here's hoping.

Tempting odds on them - Bet 365 21/10 (We're 6/4).

Nnnngh! I also agree but doesn't saying we're loath to say it amount to saying it in the end anyway?

I know what you’re saying, I hope I haven’t put the hex on it but I’m trying not to get all tied up with superstition. After all, if ultimately the worst does happen, it won’t be down to bad luck. Who knows, a bit of focus on positivity around the place might be the small thing that tips the balance in our favour.

1-0 to us, a Mowett free kick which takes an almighty deflection before dribbling just past the line, just before half time leaving us backs against the wall for the entire second 45, where we somehow hold on.

No way could you say that the team on Saturday were bereft of desire. Quality maybe but all but one player put everything into Saturday in my view.
Ok fair enough I wasn’t at the game Saturday. Just really frustrated with how few chances we created and when they did come along the complete lack of composure. Makes you wonder what they do in training!

I think we have improved a little over the last couple of games - but not much and from a pretty low base. I have given up all hope of the team suddenly clicking into gear because I don't think this lot have in in them to improve significantly as a collective. I'd love a win tonight (it will have to be virtually 'one shot, one goal' because we are making so few chances), but would drive home reasonably chirpy after a draw.

A Wimbledon\Portsmouth combo. Mowatt to fall over taking a penalty. Their player falls over Mowatt, Mowatt gets sent off, They get a penalty. Lose 1-0

United welcome Alex Mowatt back after suspension and could also have striker Gino van Kessel in contention after a hamstring problem. Mowatt returns after missing three games following his red card at Portsmouth while van Kessel has trained for the last few days after an injury sustained while on international duty with Curacao.

Both are expected to feature in the squad but a bruising encounter with Oldham on Saturday means late fitness tests for Josh Ruffels, Wes Thomas and James Henry.

I know I shouldn't. But am more than half hoping that Gino isn't fit

Not expecting much tonight. They’re a bogey team.

If the crowd performs as they did on Saturday we have a chance though.

If most on here are so good at predicting, then put some money on...and prove it. Seriously pissed off with these inane comments.
