Home Match Day Thread +++ 10/04/2018 OUFC v Fleetwood Town Match Day Thread +++

Is Conor McAleny (however you spell it) likely to play? God I hope not!! Former players and all that!!

Yes, I sort of feel the same but McAleny has only scored 4 goals all season. He's not scored since 20th Feb.
His record of one goal per 302.5 mins played is marginally worse than Jon Obika's (1 goal per 301.4 mins played). His conversion rate of 13% does though beat Obika's 10%.
NB: Wes Thomas has one goal every 222.7 mins played and a conversion rate of 24%.
Thomas's conversion rate even beats that of leading L1 scorer Jack Marriott at Posh. he's on 23% but does score every 140.4 minutes. That speaks volumes about chance created by each team.
But who actually believes these stats?

I think this one against Fleetwood will be a draw, probably a fortuitous draw, let’s say 1-1.

The last 2 home games we’ve defended better as a team, getting lots of players behind the ball when the opposition have the ball. However we just haven’t got the pace to break away and cause goal scoring opportunities.

I was heartened by the effort the players put in against Oldham (apart from the Man City loanee)

I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t win again this season but still get enough draws to cling to safety.

Mowatt double Dickie with a flying header from a corner and Fleetwood to score in injury time to little to late 2-1 OUFC

Have a nasty feeling we will lose 0-1 and it’ll be squeaky bum time. McAleny scoring after 70.
I hope I see a win tonight...as it’s been a while since I have
Forecasting the result, then the scorers is utterly pointless. Lets just say, IF we show the same fight and determination witnessed on Saturday we SHOULD get something out of the game. Somebody predicted we would score 5 last time out....Never looked like scoring.

I’m coming over on the positivity bus tonight - 3-2 Yellows. McAleny with two in the first half. Despair at half time. Rousing second half performance with Lego, Mowatt free kick and a winner from Napa with a debut goal in the 90th minute thus bringing the house down.

If this is how it is to play out I hate to think what the mood would be like in the crowd at half time.

So basically then he’s going to get a hat trick tonight...

Hope Mowatt and Buckley-Ricketts don't even make the bench

Hope some how we manage to score a goal, not really sure where it's coming from though

Mowatt? We've missed his set pieces. He needs to start just for that especially with Henry missing.

I’d say Mowatt is pretty much nailed on

Yep. He made a prat of himself against Portsmouth and will be off penalty duty, but he’s got to come in somewhere otherwise we have a series of identical midfielders and no one with that flash of inspiration to do anything with it. Mowatt is about the only creative thing we have since Jack Payne left.

Nervous about today’s game. Fleetwood in reasonable form and they have a good record over us, they have an experienced head in Sheridan leading them now and I’m worried that we don’t have the resources to get past them. Another draw would be welcomed but a win – wow, that would release a lot of pressure to hit the 50 mark. Anything gained in the remaining five matches would be a real bonus.

What the ones where he puts it straight into the keepers hands from every corner, or never beats the first man from free kicks ? [emoji6]

Wonder who will be on penalty duty incase we do get one. Henry and Thomas have been the two recently. Just don't let Ledson take it, he's missed his last 2.

Ricardinho would be a good option just for the power he has in his shots.

We know he's capable, Blackpool at home perfect example best game he had when he came on. When he's pressured Mowatt seems to perform.

Blackpool H he was pressured after being benched for past few games.

Walsall A he was under pressure then because he finally had the chance to play in his favoured position

performed in both.

The point is Henry gets to close to the keeper with corners. Mowatt if he can't beat the first man they simply put a man on front post to flick balls on.

I think they have both been poor takers this season. Richardinho puts in by far the most dangerous, we just don’t attack them

Anything could happen to be honest. I would like to see us grind out a 1-0
