It’s simple, get the default of the defence right we will be fine . Going forward we can score goals , just needs to be more confident In front of goal.

How can Clare be at fault for the first, by getting skinned easily, but then Ruffels not be at fault for the third by getting skinned easily?

The first was bad play three times... Clare getting beat, not winning the header, and Eastwood feeble attempt.

Agreed on Clare, but imo the main culprit for the 1st goal was Easty. A goalkeeper shouldn’t get done on his near post like that, it’s basic positioning. I was surprised to see it go in. Let’s just hope like KR said it was one of those days but “those days” seem to be quite regular at the moment. Today brought back some horrible memories (Wembley)

Despite eastwood punching their attacker in the head...
Yep, and despite multiple mistakes by multiple players throughout that game, including the same multiple players who contributed massively to the overall outcome of that game.

We win together, we lose together. We make mistakes individually, and as a defensive unit, and it costs us, we produce moments of magic, individually, and as an attacking unit, and it wins us games, cup finals, and promotions.

Players will have dips in form, and will lose their place in the side, and players will come into the side, hit form, and keep their place, until they too, make mistakes, lose form, and lose their place in the side, and the pattern repeats itself. No team remains unchanged all season, it's the nature of team sports.

If Eastwood was dropping clangers every single game, and costing us goals that lose us the game, every week, then he'd be out of the team by now, but every keeper in the world makes mistakes that cost the team goals throughout the season, that will also cost the team games as well, but you can't just drop them because they cost you a goal here and there, or you'd never have any continuity between the sticks, it's a position that requires perspective.

You could also argue, if the defenders did their job, the goalkeeper would never have been called into action, and had the chance to make a mistake in the first place!

We'll also ignore all of Eastwood's penalty saving heroics in the playoffs, that helped us get to the final, and league cup penalty shootout heroics, that helped us get to the quarter finals shall we!?!?

Give the guy a break, we're in this position because the whole squad, and management are under performing in their roles, both individually, and as a team.

I sense I'm on my own here but I actually think Clare will come good.

Cadden was never 'a natural right back' either- not that this alone justifies my belief of course!

Robinson has dropped a massive bollock here IMO. You can't train up a right back while you're exposing a CB to his first league football, and your 'old head' has only played half a season at CB.

Shite in both boxes, obviously. We know the offensive end will/can/should come good....let's hope that Atkinson and Clare are fast learners!

I'm annoyed we didn't go for Chris Gunter, very experienced which is what we badly require at the back as well as a very good full back .
Absolutely. Exactly what is needed. Experience, basic competence. Things we lack in that back line. Too many punts this season.

To those saying were "better" than Gillingham. Look at the table. Decentish players, rubbish team. Id guess Steve Evans would take maybe 2 of our team (Bran and Taylor) at a push.

Take off the yellow tinted glasses- played 4 lost 3. That suggests a team who arent great at the fundamentals of football.

Going forward we are looking the real deal, this game could have been the 6-0 demolition of Lincoln City last season if we had more composure, steel and commitment at the back.
The current back four are light in numbers and take out Ruffles are light in league appearances.
I have said time and time again that Sam Long, although he gives 100% he is just not good enough at this standard, I agree Moore needs a regular partner next to him to excel, and our right back has been a problem ever since Chris Cadden moved on.
Aktinson will be a player for us in time, the problem is in that position you need to learn quickly and now in hindsight 7 or 8 games last season partnering Rob Dickie would have stood him in good stead rather than replacing him without a first team game for us while he went back out on loan.
Gorin is a far better player than Liam Kelly, far better and he also protects the back 4 as if his life depends on it.
The season is only 4 games old even though it seems like we have played 10 plus games already and there is better to come from the yellows and a win on Tuesday in our rearranged game against Crewe will push back up the table......

I really hate the way this forum turns on players, even Eastwood, one of our best since 2016 and the guy that got us to the playoff final. Looks like a lack of moral strength to me, can’t bear adversity so lash out at a scapegoat. Just the sort of s**t that fascists like Trump know they can exploit. You’re better than that!

To be fair i have been saying eastwood should be replaced for over a year now. When are we allowed to start complaining. 6 games, 8 games, 10 games??? Were in the relegation zone with a shambles of a defence, i think its quite acceptable that people arent singing from the rooftops.

How many points better off would we be without these mistakes Eastwood has made already? Surely atleast 3 points better off.

That’s how football works though. When players are playing well, they stay in the team. When they aren’t, they are dropped. If that wasn’t the case Ron Atkinson would still be playing for us today

The man cannot do right for doing wrong. He made some world class saves today ffs, due to the sh*te defending. Maybe you should turn it around and ask how many points would we have if we'd invested in a decent defence, and without the mistakes they have made.

This is mental.

The defence didn’t do their job, allowing an effort on goal that shouldn’t have happened, and that yes, Eastwood should’ve done better with, but we conceded two more goals after that, that were also conceded due to very poor defending again, and were not in any way Eastwood’s fault, but still he’s being singled out and hounded by the pitchfork mob, as though he’d dropped a clanger for all three!

If the defence don’t do their job, then it makes the goalkeepers job much more difficult, but the keeper alone cannot be held responsible, it doesn’t make sense.

Ruffels has been off form for a while now, Moore looks like he may never be at the standard of Dickie or even Mous, and Atkinson has struggled so far as well, and Clare looks useless as a RB.

Of all the defenders, and despite his own mistakes and shortcomings, only Long has performed to any sort of decent level, in various positions across the back line, and he’s been criticised almost as much as Eastwood!

I feel sorry for Stevens when he eventually does get his chance, as if this defence lets him down, which let’s face it, looks almost certain that they would, if he so much as gets beaten at his near post, he’ll be slaughtered!

So true

We have an U21 cb who needs devloping already ...Nico Jones....and, if he develops another asset to sell (and leave us in this same position, yet again , in a season or two)

Sorry Sarge, but the way kr talks of him, he seems to be out of the running. When he said in his previous interview that he couldn't get a non league side to take him on loan, it gave a good indication of his current view of Jones. He hasn't developed as KR would have hoped.
