What would the situation have been if the Crewe player hadn’t taken the test?

It was the player’s son who was unwell, but the player took a test on his own accord and found out this morning that he was positive.

The situation could have been worse if he hadn’t taken the test.

It’s worrying how many people apparently still don’t seem to know or understand the guidance even after all this time...

Well yes, it can always be worse if an aymptomatic, untested player mingles with other people. But that is not what happened in this case.

In this case:
The player (having taken a test) should have been self isolating.
The club (if they knew he had taken a test) should not have allowed him to travel.
Once he knew he was positive (8.30 this morning), Crewe should have informed the EFL and OUFC and should have said they had to postpone the game.
As it was, they turned up and all their (potentially infected players) have been wandering about a hotel and a football stadium, seemingly oblivious to what the repercussions might be.

It seems ridiculous to me.

I agree with you Sarge.

Completely brainless.... how do they think it was right to come to play if it is also right not to.play and hopefully not infected our players. We are being punished by having to put in an extra midweek. It's bad enough wanting to spread colds and coughs without telling the other team but this.....

We don’t know his son’s symptoms, he paid for the test himself because he just wanted to double check.

Do you really think that everyone plus everyone who lives in the same household who might have a cold (not Covid symptoms) would self isolate or even take a test?

Yes. Simple answer.

I’m sure now his account of his son’s symptoms will be very much non-Covid related, as he realises what he’s done. But given he does in fact have CV19, and therefore we can assume his son does too, I’d bet anything that he got a test because his son had Covid symptoms, rather than just as a real precaution because his son had a cough and temperature sorry, a runny nose ? (pinnochio, apt)

I have just emailed the EFL to ask if they agree that the protocols need serious review plus the funding of tests.
Suggest you all do the same.

Symptoms are non-specific across a range of respiratory viral illnesses. If Wintle has arranged a test for coronavirus, it is illogical for him to then behave as if he cannot possibly have it.

Yes, the isolation you refer to is precisely what is required, at least until adequate negative tests are returned. Non-compliance with this requirement is the reason we have a global pandemic.

If Crewe had knowledge of a positive test within their camp, they have been absolutely remiss not to follow isolation protocols and to travel to our ground. Wintle's son's symptoms are an absolute irrelevance.

Absolutely aghast at David Artell's interview...

"I don't blame Oxford, they don't know how many infected were on our bus".

"We could have gone ahead and played, made Oxford weaker for next week"
Please tell me you're paraphrasing?

Goodness me.
