Waiting on a positive test and not isolating. It's hard rocket science is it?
What would the situation have been if the Crewe player hadn’t taken the test?

It was the player’s son who was unwell, but the player took a test on his own accord and found out this morning that he was positive.

The situation could have been worse if he hadn’t taken the test.

Didn't Artell state they wanted to play but we didn't want to? He then went onto say it was the sensible decision all round to call it off. "It was taken out of our hands. And quite rightly."

He should have self isolated whilst awaiting the results. How hard is that to understand? Stop sticking up for Crewe. They screwed up.

The ridiculous part is that following the distinct possibility of having come into contact with someone displaying symptoms, Crewe, as an organisation, did nothing. It took one player to act independently in getting tested to show how serious the situation really was.

Crewe should receive severe sanctions under the current legislation let alone what the EFL, FA PFA guidelines/rules indicate.

100% this. Crewe should be made to forfeit the game.

As far as I see it the situation has been handled horrendously by Crewe. If they suspected someone may have had Covid after their game vs Newcastle then there should've been a blanket test. The player who decided to have a test because of his young child should self isolate until he gets his result back. They knew they had a positive test at quarter to 8 this morning and not tellimg anyone and coming to the stadium is simply irresponsible. Their team have been in our dressing room so who knows who could've caught it. Then for them to ask if we want the game to happen is just appalling. Crewe have made a mess of this situation and their club should be sanctioned accordingly.

Well yes, it can always be worse if an aymptomatic, untested player mingles with other people. But that is not what happened in this case.

In this case:
The player (having taken a test) should have been self isolating.
The club (if they knew he had taken a test) should not have allowed him to travel.
Once he knew he was positive (8.30 this morning), Crewe should have informed the EFL and OUFC and should have said they had to postpone the game.
As it was, they turned up and all their (potentially infected) players have been wandering about a hotel and a football stadium, seemingly oblivious to what the repercussions might be.

It seems ridiculous to me.

Exactly! My son had symptoms a few weeks ago. I had no symptoms and nor did my partner. We all self isolated. How hard is it for some people to understand on here? Stop sticking up for Crewe, they fucked up!

I think Crewe shouldn’t have come to the ground after they found out this morning, and you’re right the player should have self-isolated if his son HAD Covid symptoms, but he could just have had standard cold symptoms (even the government have advised not to do a test if it’s a sniffle etc), so we don’t know the full facts. The Crewe player was shocked to get a positive result, but I agree with you the most sensible thing to have done was for the player have self-isolated, but I’m not sure that’s the protocol set by the EFL.

Thus needs to be sorted out at the EFL level with proper procedures in place with regular testing.
