Away Match Day Thread 12/09/20 L1 - Lincoln City v OUFC

Ah - I sit corrected then, I was going on what KR said post match (perhaps someone ought to correct him too!). I suspect that makes it unlikely they'll rescind it.

Not a chance in Hell I'd say.

The panel always sides with the referee unless it's mistaken identity as far as I can see.

Constantly overplaying the sideways and backwards passes (I understand it is obviously useful at times) which allows any defending team time to organise their defence.
We’ve been doing this ever since the playoffs started. Both semis, the majority of the final as well as today and a lot of the Wimbledon game. It’s what happens when people are nervous and don’t want to take responsibility for giving the ball away or getting tackled, which is also why when Kelly is on the pitch you’ll often see him struggle to get rid of the ball for more than 15 seconds. Comes back to a lack of character and mental strength. At some point it needs addressing.

Get some minutes in a few legs in midweek and then go again next weekend. Hopefully the players get angry rather than down in the dumps. Pull up the socks and carry on.

We must remain positive. There’s some good players still finding their feet. Clearly we are missing Dickie.
I'm disappointed Atkinson got sent off at the death, but given time I reckon he will be a much better player.
After a slow start last season we were fantastic until the last game.
I can’t wait for us to replace Wycombe at the end of the season

It was awful and things do need to be addressed, does that mean we’re relegation fodder and will lose every week? No. It just means we were woeful today and some glaring problems need to be sorted.
We lack pace throughout the team and at full back we need to improve, hopefully Clare comes in and makes the right side his own and the left side with or without Ruffles needs improving.
I have no doubt we are a hundred times better than we showed today but I also feel people are within their rights to say it was very poor because it was. 9 of the starting 11 today were here last season so no excuses for the way we played, I don’t go for the lack of pre season excuse because we also played later through the play offs. We just weren’t at the races and need to improve, as simple as that.

Brentford successfully appealed sending off in playoff semis

Both Ruffles and Gorrin out on long termish injuries. Gorrin 3/4 weeks, alongside the new striker not match fit. Three players out of a smallish squad may well force his hand in the transfer market.
Ruffles was said to be in agony in the tunnel with his shoulder, and the shoulder could be worse case scenario, meaning an experienced cover.

Until Taylor gets the support he needs in and around the opposition penalty area this is not going to change anytime soon. A virtual rerun of the Wycombe game and easy for Lincoln against a predictable one trick pony Oxford. Work needed on the training ground to counter the opposition banks of 4 set-up - but this should have been done pre-season.
“One trick pony Oxford “ almost got promotion last season .

Exactly, managers know how we are going to play before the whistle is blown.
Atm, we have a bang average squad, after an ok window, players with something to prove.
Kr need to cut the cat and mouse antics with fans, and get in the targets they obviously know about. We're not promotion form currently, and all this talk of waiting weeks before the next signing is nonsense. You cant wait until 5 weeks into the season to finalise your best 11. Equally to go from the likes of Mous a couple of years ago, along side a Nelson or Dickie, to the present inexperienced pairing and pretend we're fine is nonense. We need an experienced CB, pace on the wings and defensive cover
Long is never a first choice as was shown today and in preseason.
This is not a sprint but a marathon, and nothing was lost at the final whistle. KR though needs more urgency in getting the complete squad together, changing the way we play and not going in the Oxmail on Monday and talking publicly about his transfer business.

It takes some doing to have the most hysterical post of the day, but I reckon....

"we have a bang average squad"

.... is right up there!

Didn’t we go on a bad run when KR signed his first contract extension? There’s some sort of curse with him signing them.

I think it's more to do with early season sloppiness than KRs contract extension. I have never been convinced by the 'five games in six days' sort of pre-season he prefers and (with my vast experience of football management - not) don't really understand it.

It was hearing the Lincoln commentators when Ruffs went down for the 2nd time saying it was wrong to lay on your back, pair muppets

And then what happened? One team nullified our one trick in a high profile game and now other teams seem to be copying it. A one-trick pony might get into the play-offs one season, but a multi-trick pony gives you a much better chance of doing it again.
