EFL - The Covid-19 decision

You know what That Joey Barton not such a bad bloke after all :)

Unweighted PPG has to be to be the fairest because it’s the most straight forward process to decide the standings. It’s based on what HAS happened. When the season curtailed WWFC had the third highest points per game, fact.

Weighted PPG introduces a single variable (when hundreds are available) and it makes absolutely no sense to do this. If you’re going to weight home/away then you have to look at who’s played who and you could boil it down to the finest details, injuries etc. It opens a real can of worms and is completely impractical.

Around and around we go.

EFL should have a number of challenges to the straight ppg system they appear to have imposed- the Bolton situation at the start of this season ( playing their youth team and not fulfilling matches) really should be factored into any decision agreed on

weighted ppg is arguably the least contentious way IMO

or void ALL points accrued v Bolton perhaps? ?

Football the good old entertainment industry that sends the most free scoring team in the League out of the equation

It's not the worst solution , why couldn't they have come up with it a month ago? If the playoffs don't take place people can start arguing about what should happen. Otherwise maybe leave it?

Ainsworth will have high Wycombe players running around hospitals to catch corona virus, won’t even be the most negative tactic he has used this season.

That cannot happen though because they can string a team together of youth etc because they were ok with that before.

See previous thread for all our rebuttals to this exact point.

If on average teams' home and away win /draw /lose records were broadly similar then yes. But they manifestly are not!

To win the Play Offs 6/4 Pompey 2/1 Oxford 3/1 Fleetwood 5/1 Wycombe

To win the final on Penalties Wycombe 1/10

This means that in the event of an early curtailment:
  • Final divisional placings should be determined on unweighted points per game (if required).
  • Promotion and relegation should be retained.
  • Play-Offs should be played in all circumstances but should not be extended (beyond four teams).
  • If a scenario arises whereby the Play-Offs cannot be played, the EFL Board will determine the appropriate course of action.
That final point is the most important, as that does then reintroduce a number of options : autos only, PPG, weighted PPG, etc.

Nope. We don't have a youth team or academy. They were cut about 6 or 7 years ago to save money. The first team squad is all we've got

Edit: 8 years ago in fact

“The Board has always acknowledged that a single solution to satisfy all Clubs would always be hard to find, but we are at the point now where strong, definitive action is need for the good of the League and its members.

YOU... I... OOOOOOOOHHHHH...
