Wycombe Wanderers Chairman Pete Guerig has confirmed the Buckinghamshire based side have applied for an immediate name change to be approved. The club who are battling at the top end of League One have already registered the new name. Guerig confirmed the move which has the approval of team boss Gareth Ainsworth, was being made for a number of reasons. Firstly, the American owner has said the move will make the club have a broader affinity with the local area. "We want to be the biggest team in Bucks, and this rebranding will allow us to retain our alliterative style whilst broadening our demographic. It also speaks to the values and ethos of the club and management. Finally the change of name will be advantageous should the league end up being decided by alphabetical order in the event of a tied season. We have already exhausted the PPG avenue in the past and this will be another small incremental method of clawing our way back up."

He added, "In the US sports teams frequently associate with imagery from the animal kingdom to represent their respective strengths and character. Here at Wycombe we wanted to do something similar and we think we have found the perfect identity."

If approved by the EFL ,Wycombe Wanderers name change to the Chiltern Cheetahs will be effective from todays date.
