Chairman Done Deal - New owner is Tiger

I agree with the old wordsmith here. I do not see a clear business upside for Tiger with his purchase currently.

Where is the property angle a la the plastics? It doesn’t exist here.

Anyway I’m sure all will be clear after the press conference.

My take:

Tiger is in this for two reasons. Firstly, he clearly is a football nut and enjoys the involvement. Secondly, but primarily, he wants to make money out of OUFC and will attempt to do so through one promotion, maybe two if he could persuade his oft-mentioned contacts to contribute significant investment.

Without the dimension of a property deal, there’s no other way.

I think there’ll be some disappointment tomorrow. If I’m right, and it’s promotion or bust for a good ROI, why would he worry about £500k in rent, when buying the stadium would mean far more investment? Which contributes more to a promotion side, better players or a stadium?

He won’t be interested in the KS, at all. I doubt he’ll be around long enough for it to matter to him. I know many link our success to buying the stadium, but at the reported asking price, it makes little sense from the perspective of an investor.

Just my opinion.

Wasn't DE interested in buying Birmingham fc at one time?.....how come he though could run them in the championship and not OUFC/

Why would Tiger bother about the rent? If he were to buy the stadium from "Rigsby " it would cost him what , £15 million?plus running costs and any interest on loans required to buy it. That works out at 30 years rent. He won't be around that long so paying the rent would be the cheaper option for him.

I wonder if they went to KFC to seal the deal?

They did,
Just looking from my usual uninformed standpoint. I ask this... why would a successful businessman get involved with a club with no clear assets other than the players and tickets sales?

Football is a fools paradise for someone looking to make money out of club ownership.
With Tiger now in place, I can see few options to open up the revenue streams. Of those available to him, All will require significant cash being splashed in order to see a return.
Looking from my east stand rookery, I think he will obviously first need a manager to get the house in order and guide us to safety in this league. From there, he will then need this manager to take his money and bring in the kind of players that will put us in the championship within the next 18 months. From there, he could then either sell on those players for profit, sell the club on or hunker down and ride it out on a low budget.
Wresting the stadium from our ‘poor landlord’ may well be wasted effort as he clearly has no interest in concession of any kind.
A new stadium elsewhere could be a possibility but would probably (certainly) involve the council in some capacity. Serious money would need to be fronted though, will he see this as a goer? Not sure if that is something he would consider but it is one avenue to explore.
Should we fail to get promotion then he will soon be gone.
Personally, I think he will put his hands in his (hopefully deep) pockets and buy quality players in in the summer to push on.
There is no guarantee that this will work but it offers the best chance of success.
We have potential, no question we have it. He just needs to tap into it.

According to the BBC Berks equivalent of Jerome Sale, Tiger had nothing to do with any Real estate goings on at Reading. He was simply interested in the footballing side. The guy from Radio Berks was interviewed on the breakfast show by a female presenter, don't know her name as I don't receive Radio Oxford.

Probabley do a land switch deal with Kassam ?
Give us the stadium and rights around it for the land at Reading which could be a little more lucrative.
Turn us around polish us up and sell to the highest bidder...

Usual guessing...

That would be a great deal for tiger swapping land he doesn’t own for the Kassam, let’s hope cuddly uncle Firoz has gone senile

Totally agree

Some people with their agendas and name calling need to give up and move on it’s not going to happen

If you look at the tone those two adopt to me, I would need to be saintly to respond politely. I'm far from that. They have an agenda, work to orders from above and therefore are not dealing straight when they come on here.
However if someone wants to have an honest, respectful conversation then I shall always be up for that, even if it includes criticism of me or disagreement on what I am saying. Myles and I became mates on that basis!
For the record, I do not think that our club is in a very good way at the moment. A lot of good people have left, and huge swathes of operations - commercial and marketing - have been abandoned. Those things take years to build up. Ashton was pretty hopeless at that side of things, so it's not solely Darryl's fault but he has now had two years to put them right and they have got even worse.
The Academy has had cuts to its budget in the last year, and spent almost a year without a director. (Something that would have led to loss of academy status in a matter of weeks if Dan hadn't come in, presumably at tigers instigation).
The development squad was binned off when Ashton left, making it harder to develop young players. The head scout left and wasn't replaced.
In short, over the last two years we have gradually been becoming a potemkin village of a club. Shiny and bright on the outside (until recently) but increasingly no substance behind the scenes.
So - given that business results always lag the decisions that make the difference - its no great surprise to me that results have in the end deteriorated. We have 29 points from the last 27 games, which is relegation form over a protracted period of time. That doesn't happen by chance when you have a 3 million quid budget (certainly top 10 if not higher). It is the result of relentlessly poor decision-making over 18 months to 2 years.
I have no idea if Tiger will be any good for us or not. But the way we were headed was pretty damn awful, so I welcome what will be at least a change of direction.
More immediately, though, the players are the same and we need them to get 3 or four wins in the next 9 games (dont fancy our run in much). The next three games are all against sides below us. 6 points or more and we will be on the road to safety. 5 points a good step in the right direction. 4 points treading water and still anxious. 3 points or lower and we would be in the mire. So a heartfelt COYY!
Just had a phone call to enlighten me about this.
Grow up t##t

Why does no one phone me about things on here?! Come on guys, I can be a t**t too so keep me informed!!!

The Forum mobile is only an old Nokia 3210 on pay-as-you-go unfortunately.

It therefore can’t ring everyone, but your time will come eventually.

Can we book you in for a call in 2022?

Don’t know who all these people bickering are, but it reminds me of guys in the late 90s like Chris Brewer and ian Davies. Really nerdy stuff but also real hatred, it seemed. Shame we can’t get some women involved , they’d be more sensible

Well, that is demonstrably false. Tiger is still one of the directors of the companies used to siphon off the land from the football club.

Let's just say that Tiger was involved in siphoning millions out of Reading for his own personal gain, but then used that money to invest in Oxford legitimately - would we care?

It may not be ethical but then you could argue the same if we picked up Dickie on the cheap and then sell him for several million in a year or two. We certainly wouldn't care about that, and the fact that it is Reading would make it even sweeter.
