Away Match Day Thread +++ 21/09/19 L1: Lincoln City v OUFC +++

Lincoln man of the match given to their fans as no player qualified. To be fair I thought the Lincoln fans deserved that as they stick with the team to the end, just a few of the usual got to get out of the car park fans. Not as many as we would have at six down

OMG. Just back. What a day.
What a performance! Probably the greatest away performance that I have had the privilege to have witnessed. We were just sublime the whole game. To a man we offered a lesson in football and dished it out to a team who were no mugs.
Lincoln spent 90 exhausting minutes chasing shadows and to be honest, they never came close to matching us.
We have shown glimpses of our latent talent. Flickers of it, no more. But this?Well, We set Sincil Bank alight with football of another level. We f*****g rocked people! We f*****g rocked!
Credit to Tariqe Fosu coming over to the fans at the end. He deserved his special moment there, but the whole team deserve huge credit for the incredible spectacle they gave us today.
Special mentions too to... Rob Dickie, John Mousinho. CamBran and you too mr Woodburn.
I think Jamie Mackie could also be my illegitimate son!?
As a footnote, For all the pressure he is under at the moment, Karl must take credit for sticking with his players when he really could have rung the changes. They were totally brilliant.

Good to hear. Results like this are once in a generation and absolutely vital we build on it, not so much against West Ham but Gillingham next Saturday is massive in terms of not wasting today’s efforts.

I don't think I can ever top starting another match day thread after today. To think I only did it as no one else had started one, rather than a guaranteed banker.

This was Lincoln's welcome to L1 moment, where you fancy beating the opponent and doors well and truly get blown off the thing. It almost highlights the 2 leagues in League 1, just like the 2 leagues in the Championship and Premier League.

I'm pleased for the Management and Players as they have set the standard of what they can do.

What was the ref like?
Honestly he was appalling, would hate to have him in a tight game as appeared to be one that would make a huge bad decision and would be totally inconsistent. He was amazingly Inconsistent with cards, booked Ruffles for a foul which was borderline, yet 30 seconds later Fosu was upended cynically and it was a quiet word, similar with Mackies booking, another poor tackle straight after not penalised. Amazingly our 3rd booking was for time wasting at 0-5.

Appeared to be a homer on fouls, just glad he did not have much influence due to the wide margin.

Amazing game today. Still struggling to believe it.

Let's hope we can build on this.

Our fans were so loud today as well, great support everyone

A quite extraordinary result. A very warm glow to the evening as a result. Hope everyone who went had safe journeys home.

Well done, all. More please!

Thoroughly disappointed by today’s result, how we didn’t get 7 is beyond me!
Sorry but we got to find something to moan about!

The Lincoln fans were fantastic.
Even at 6 0 down they stuck with the team

If KR gets hammered for Bolton we should also give credit to him for today.

Set up with the opposition in mind, totally nullified them and used our quality to impose our game.

Gorrin was fantastic, Henry and Cadden great as ever...as I keep saying, make the most of Caddens crosses and we will mop up (especially Taylor).

The main thing today was the threat behind, mainly Fosu...such a chance up to Mackie who is a little one dimensional.

Was sceptical of Woodburn in the midfield...would probably prefer Baptiste long term but the set up was spot on today...the blueprint for away performances

Spot on. Everybody involved deserves a pat on the back and a pint of their choosing for today. It very much felt like we went there with a plan and changed it up far more than we have done for most of the season so far. The second goal from Fosu and even the third from Mackie came from simply playing the ball into space and running the channels / off the back of markers. That’s all we’ve needed to do - just get the ball into space and let our attacking players stretch the back line once in a while! Simply knowing you might and can do that means teams will be in two minds about whether or not to close you down if you’re advancing, or whether to back off and watch the runners. Then all you need is someone who can slice a ball (in a good way) into the top corner from 30 yards, or hit a rocket of a volley first time from the edge of the box. Tariqe Fosu and James Henry - take a bow each. Those were fine, fine strikes. And how great to see a decent cross into the box for once, and to see a proper poacher’s finish on the end of it for good measure.

Every once in a while you see a game where everything just clicks, and today was certainly one of them. As KR rightly said in his post match, you have to enjoy days like these and live in the moment, because they just don’t happen often. Plus it was just nice to be sat in the pub after the match with a Lincoln supporting workmate, and not have to put up with him grinning like a Cheshire cat.

Some outstanding finishing.
I reckon we played just as well at Blackpool and could have scored 6 there had we been as clinical.
We do have some very good players and need to push on now.
Dickie was outstanding again today. Brannagan as usual was excellent and did somebody seriously suggest that they didnt see the point in Gorrin? He was one if the main reasons why Payne was taken off at half time
Fosu is some player at this level and Taylor will score a lot of goals. A bit unfair as the rest of the players were excellent today.

Having watched the highlights it’s good to see a decent mention by that idiot who presents the programme.
Jamie Mackies goal beautiful
James Henry’s blockbuster volley BeautifulTaiq Fosu’s third exceptional
To pick a winner out of them three would be a difficult task for anyone.
A special mention to Matty Taylor for getting his goal, in the right place at the right time.
Well done Oxford.

I like Colin Murray as he is one of the few presenters that really likes and understands lower league football. Oh and he clearly has a soft spot for Oxford.
Agree with you re Taylor. A real proper strikers goal. He could score a lot for us.

Hard to know what to say really. In just seven days, we've gone from functional vs. Tranmere to fairly clueless vs. Bolton to sublime vs. Lincoln.
(although it's probably fair to say that Bolton are better than we thought - Keith Hill seems to have pulled them together pretty quickly. They held Sunderland as well today......although I guess most people hold Sunderland.......)

There's clearly bags of talent in this team, but not a whole lot of consistency.

We should now go on and beat Gillingham next weekend. And three points then could leave us knocking on the door of the playoffs.

But then again, you'd have lost a lot of money trying to predict our results this week!
