Away Match Day Thread +++ 13/07/2019 PSF: Woking v OUFC MDT +++

The 1st team players won't be involved at Eastleigh and will only be training this week. I reckon that will show Vs QPR.
KR said it would be U23s .... probably a few academy/ U18s too

I assume that Chris Short and the sports science people are heavily involved in this schedule.
It sounds like CS is highly thought of from a fitness perspective and I would be amazed if his recommendations are not listened to?
You are right though. We should follow the top PL sides and go to Australia, The Far East and the US for our friendlies.
Yes Chris Short a decent fella had a chat ? re game asks who you are so he can address you by your name and will chat about what he is allowed to

People talking about fixture congestion.

We had the same approach last season, and one of the main things that contributed to our great run at the end of last season was the squad fitness past the 75+ minute mark of matches.

Just back, wish I hadn’t bothered. I know it’s for fitness etc, but you do expect a certain amount of entertainment. Dickie was best player by miles. Once he’d gone off we were in the s***.

I'm not sure that the work done in pre-season is that influential by the time we get to January. It would perhaps be more logical to point to our sluggish start last time and say that knackering the players before the season starts was shown not to be a good idea!

[QUOTE="Mellowyellow, post: One of the officials I spoke to said that as he was aware the triallist free agent CB, who had played the last couple of games has left the club. How true that is I cant vouch for. But if we cant persuade/afford a free agent who played well when here then what's going on.

How can you deduce that 'we cant afford a free agent...'
RO implied that the club didnt want to keep him.
Wasnt this a possibility or did you seriously think that the club couldn't afford him? Or do you know that to be a fact?

In Short we trust.

Sorry just watched Karl’s interview on The game, it never occurred to me that it was the grass that was wrong. Too dry and too long! Do me a favour!

When the wall moved forward and they scuffed the white line I shouted as did others and a bloody jobsworth steward told me to stop shouting, and I wasn’t even swearing, bloody cheek

Terrible match! Tend to forget just how bad preseason friendlies can be, and this was up there with the worst of them. Not sure how players moving barely above walking pace, and hardly at all off the ball develops either fitness or tactics. This game just seemed to drag on forever. If it was a trial match, I wouldn't want to sign any of them. Apart from that, it was Interesting.

How many references to Woking resident Paul Weller and the Jam did you spot in the match report?

They got a few in there to be fair, that report was more entertaining than the game was that’s for sure

Glad you said that, read it through again and was kicking myself having not spotted more than just the final 'Thats Entertainment' at the end.

My particular favourite:

"The free kick was touched to Cameron Brannagan with the wall jumping and his shot going under. Ground down on a sweltering afternoon, United never let their energy levels drop and will be pleased with another good test."

Then KR that it wasn't dead in his interview, and they are going to speak to his agent on Monday, interestingly not the player.

I said couldn't afford him because the person who I went to the game had mentioned he was on quite a high salary before he left Scotland, which is way above what we would pay him based on the fact that he is a free agent CB and not a 20 goal a year striker.

Chris Williams must have written this and the Mail have taken it also. He bloody loves The Jam. Wouldn’t shut up about them when we worked together. Them and The Wedding Present. Both of them are rubbish.

I’m not a fan of Mr Weller but you can’t deny the Jam had some pretty memorable songs. The Wedding Present always seemed a tuneless bunch though

Just read that one of the Woking Trialist in the 2nd half was Chris Zebroski
