Glasgow Rangers friendly

For fans staying in glasgow, i'm now looking at going up saturday so where are Yellow's fans looking at staying? I've looked at premier inns but there are so many!

AirBnB mate. before I bought my flat in Glasgow I used it all the time.

Make sure you're near a train station as it'll make it easier to get around.

Anywhere in the West End is cool, Shawlands/Strathbungo for the Southside.

if you want a Hotel the Travel Lodge on Queens Street is good and near Subway links so you can get to Ibrox.

Lets face it them Jocks have hated us since before Culloden, that was just the cherry on the cake. Why they have to fight amongst themselves over some make believe "friend" is beyond me.

It's not just about religion, that's a little naive.

That's an aspect of it, but the friction stems from Britain's invasion and colonisation of Ireland and the following migration (between Ireland and Scotland and vice-versa) that followed.

The truth is Rangers and Celtic need the premier league desperately but the premier league has no need of them.

This is nonsense.

Celtic and Rangers don't need the English premier league. Celtic have been playing in Scotland since 1888 and with respect, have achieved more than Oxford have without being in the English league system.

There is a lot of money to be made for qualifying for Europe which happens frequently.

The Premier league clubs in the English league don't want Celtic or Rangers in their league because with a 60k (Celtic) and 50k (Rangers) seater stadiums that are full most weeks, global fan-bases and loyal support in Scotland, they know that both teams would be a real threat to Champions League places for the top-4 clubs.

The Premier League clubs sees both Celtic and Rangers as a threat as it would be more competition for European slots, thus reducing their odds of qualifying for other teams in the league.

I've booked the premier inn at Charing Cross. Any recommendations for bars to try out on the saturday night?

Why does the massively successful premier league need Rangers or Celtic? If they are both so successful and huge how come they are both poorer than Bournemouth?

Both Rangers and Celtic would leave for England at a moments notice, filling your ground in the modern era is not going to compete with the richest tv deal in football history.

I'm from Oxfordshire, just outside Oxford originally and now live in Glasgow. I am attending the game Sunday - should be a good one.

I am also a Celtic season ticket holder (my dad moved from Scotland to Oxfordshire before I was born which is the connection).

Is there going to be a location/bar where the Oxford support meet up on match day? I would be happy to come over for a beer. I assume everyone knows how they're getting to the ground - if not I'm happy to get people there and back from the city centre.

Cheers.

Right so celtic singing anti-British, pro ira songs is nothing to their Catholic, pro irish beliefs?
I believe they have some interesting anti-Protestant songs up their sleeves as well.

You genuinely think celtic and Rangers would threaten the top 4 of the Premier league? Never.

Not bothering with the new poster, I have a feeling this is just a new name being used by someone with previous on here!

I hope those going Enjoy their trip, have the right attitude and it will be a good trip. Depending on tomorrow night's result and with the chance of the Gers playing Tuesday we could end up playing some fringe players.

Off on my hols so enjoy folks

His point is that with the tv money plus their big support they could compete. Which might happen, but hasn’t for Newcastle or Sunderland, both of whom are worse than well managed little Bournemouth

Let's hope that (still missing players in key positions) we can give a decent account of ourselves so that those travelling (you are mad - well done!) have something to sing about...

That's a good location.

You're close to Sauchiehall Street, it's a long strip full of bars. It can get pretty wild down there! FYI there's Roma pick-pockets at the cashpoints at night so keep an eye out.

Yo're close to Finniston too (nearest station to get here is Exhibition Centre) - that's great for bars/cafes and is a bit more classier than Sauchiehall Street.

If you venture further in to town head for Merchant Square. There's an excellent Brew Dog pub in the area that does great food.

You can walk most places from where you're staying mate.

Religious tension is a bi-product of a larger issue and a myriad of historical factors, but I'm not going to explain further as I doubt you have an understanding of 17th Century Dutch politics or any other of the finer points of the issue so i'd be wasting my time.

What I think you've done is watched a tv show by Danny Dyer on the issue and drawn your conclusion from there......
......

Top 4? Yes. Maybe after a decade in the Premiership they would compete for a top 4 spot. Finances were on parity between the EPL and SPL not too long ago (circa 2000). It's not beyond the imagination for either Celtic or Rangers after 10 years in the EPL, having accumulated a decades worth of finances from playing in the English top flight, to challenge for a top 4 position.

I think what you're doing is imaging Rangers/Celtic in their current form (2019) challenging for a top 4 position in today's EPL, which wouldn't happen obviously.

Yeh. Glasgow is a great city, I'm from Oxfordshire and lived in Oxford. Obviously spent time watching Oxford Utd (played there once as a youth) and happy to help people get to the ground.

If you're referring to me then no I've never been on this forum before as someone who posts - although I do browse it quiet often.

Very jealous. Couldn't get this trip sorted on my budget, or my work leave allocation. Will be listening on iFollow at my desk.

Glasgow is a really nice city, I much prefer it to Edinburgh. Look forward to hearing the stories of the traveling yellows contingent on here afterwards!
