Subs made a difference tonight. Chambers P looks a good prospect. I also like Jones, there is a player in there, I agree, he needs a toughening up loan spell in the National League.

Forest Green useful , think our ressies did well to scrape through.

Rob Hall has been on his farewell tour for two years now. He’s had bad injuries, he’s lost his snap, he’s lost all his pace. He’s not robust enough to make a fist of it further back a la Obita. Afraid it’s game over for him here.

Shodipo spent nearly all game looking like he couldn’t be arsed then came up with two highly impressive pieces of skill. On the contrary to some , live at the ground, his penalty looked sublime.
All our penalties were great in fact. )Like they usually are.)

Great to be back at the ground, stewarding in SSU excellent and liked the racket the crowd made with the seats in the shootout. Helped us to the result.

3 games from Wembley.

Not much to add other than I think Chambers-Parillon's performance is being downplayed by some on here. I thought he looked immense. So often youth players come in and look like boys playing in a man's game, but he looks the full package already. His first touch was the assist for the goal and it was him who changed the game in our favour. Get him in the match day squad.

Also, having slated Clare on Saturday, I have to say he was at the centre of pretty much everything we did that was good today. Some good link up down the right in the first half with Hall and looked surprisingly assured at left back. Fair play to him.

Obita is such an asset. Quite apart from being quality on the ball (one ball he fizzed across in the box would have been tapped away by Taylor no problem), you can see his value as an older head. I noticed him talking through movements and giving directions to both Shodipo and Jones at different points this evening, imparting some experience.

Finally, I absolutely loved Shodipo's celebration. I hope it had the pathetic individual in the East who booed the knee-taking at the beginning of the match frothing at the mouth. Shame on you.
Chambers Parillon looked good enough for the first team easily.

Couldn't type last night my hands were too cold! Heres my player assessments:

Eastwood: In a game where FGR had some really nice build up play i don't remember him saving a shot. A couple of nice catches from crosses towards the end. Good penalty save. Decent performance.

Clare: Thought he played very well in two positions that we know he is not comfortable in. He was one of our only players prepared to run with the ball in the first half. Looked pretty comfortable at left back. Good performance.

Obita: can tell he has played at a high level, the positions he takes up are really good, always knows where his man is. Good talker too. Maybe could have done more for the goal? Good performance.

Mousinho: was their to help Nico and Clare through the game and did that job really well. Solid passing out of defence. His lack of pace would worry me against better strikers though. Great final penalty. OK performance.

Jones: steady from the young lad. A couple of errors in the second half when under pressure but that's expected at his age and with lack of game time. Wasnt scared to get hands on with the FGR strikers too. Unlucky for the goal as he made a superb tackle just before the cross came in. Good performance.

Forde: although rarely losing the ball he never really goes forward and plays the 'safe" pass. This was particularly noticeable in the second half when he moved to right back and could have played osei-yaw down the line but went back or sideways each time. Ok game

Hanson: very steady for his first game in a long time. A long way off being a suitable stand in for gorrin but I certainly think their is a future for him here if he stays fit, albeit he will be back up for a player who on current form is the best player in the first team in Gorrin.

Sykes: 10/10 for effort, 5/10 for productivity. Ita very strange, he is a very busy player and always seems to be around the action but I can't recall him ever making a meaningful contribution. Usually gets frustrated with himself for giving the ball away and gives away a silly foul. I honestly think their is a good player in their. We saw it a few times last season but it just isn't their currently. OK performance.

Agyei: Another one who gives everything but has no real quality when it comes to end product. He never looks like he has confidence in himself when he receives the ball. Think he needs a goal to boost his confidence. OK performance.

Shodipo: really really good goal! Pace, strength and a superb finish. Needs to try and stay in the game more, drifts out for long periods (its a winger thing), helped having Obita behind him too as he was constantly telling Shodipo where to go, who to mark. Very lucky with his pen. Good performance.

Subs:

O'donkor: didn't really get enough time to give a fair assessments but loved his confidence to step up and take the first penalty. Good penalty too!

Osei yaw: again not really enough to judge him, still looks a bit lost and has a very unique running style.

CP: Looks like a very good prospect. Was demanding the ball, taking players on, passing forward and making challenges. Very unlucky with his rasping shot that hit the bar. Only nag is him trying to do Maradona turns in the center of the park, although I admire the confidence good sides will punish you.

Anyone have a video of Shodipo's penalty? Sounds hilarious 😂

Im unsure on Jones. With the ball at feet he looks great. Brave, travels well. But he never wins a header. or he seems to pull out the header and try to control it with his feet or let it bounce. Very helpful playing next to Mous who seemed to scream at him every second. I think a loan move would be of benefit but only if he could play alongside an older, experienced player.
Very funny how quiet they all are. Mous and Obita the only players I could hear last night.

He does win plenty of headers but he also goes for just about every header when he probably shouldn't on occasion as he won't get there or he is unlikely to win it. This is where Mous/Craig Short need to coach him on the training ground, as when there early enough he won most of his headers, including against the unit that is Jamille Matt.

The run that so nearly put Dan Agyei in on goal was superb. He is clearly taking Rob Atkinson as inspiration.

Fully agree how quiet they are. It has been noticeable on iFollow this season that we need some to step up as leaders. Getting back Cam Brannagan will improve this in both vocal impact and leading by example.

Due to iFollow, I'm kind of addicted to watching matches with the Radox commentary now so I tune into the radio on FM at live games. Last night Jerome provided some light relief by regularly confusing Forde and Hanson! I was also surprised at how confused they were over the date of the next round of the PPJ Trophy. They eventually settled on the correct date of 12/13 January when hopefully we'll get a home tie so that non season ticket holders will get another chance to attend in person.

I hope when restrictions ease, RadOx get Steve Kinniburgh to actually commentate on the games as his insights are generally very good and critical (positive and negative). Rosie is "Mr Oxford United" but for me, I see a different game as he is pretty much always positive about Oxford. Even when we are poor/getting overrun he'll say we are on top or well in this. With him being an Oxford Utd employee, maybe the conflict of interest between the 2 positions is showing. I just want to re-iterate Rosie is an Oxford Utd legend for me, for his work off the pitch as much as on the pitch.

Well confirms what we know about Craig Hicks that he is a shockingly bad Ref, and who will ignore confirmation of an elbow from the 4th Official whilst rushing to book KR for verbals.
If that's what their official said then It was a rather silly comment...even if we were to get relegated and FGR come up you wouldn't fancy their chances of staying up based on that. Yes they had a lot of possession but they didn't really threaten and this was against our second string side.
