Do you think that the clamour for communication is fans wanting to hear more from our manager about prospective new signings?! That couldn't be further from the point, I feel like I hear from Des more than most members of my family. His job title should be Head Coach and Spokesperson.
Surely for an important announcement like an assistant for Des, you’d have a standalone announcement, but no, uncle tim decided he’d shove it in between a lot of waffle. If you can’t be bothered to read it, he tells us that they’ve given up on finding a new Assistant to take some of the load of Des, we can hope for an update on the stadium in the coming weeks, but commercially everything is hunky-dory
I think people are going to read it how they want too. Clearly to me it points out that Des wanted to assess the existing coaching staff first. Seems reasonable. A club doing well when the manager leaves, as opposed to the norm when they are doing rubbish, thoughtful and insightful new coach wants to see the lay of the land first and not rattle things that don't need to be rattled. DB, in my view, given he has managed at different clubs and done well, is confident enough to make his own decision on the matter. If he didn't think Hackett was suitable he would not have been given the role. Clearly he feels the input provided by Hackett is positive and that their relationship as a team is an effective one. I'm happy to trust him and the club on this appointment.Nothing against the appointment of Chris Hackett.
But to me that statement reads:
after a month of it’s all but lined up, we can’t attract anyone from outside the club.

Seems strange that we’ve been pursuing other targets in the meantime thenI think people are going to read it how they want too. It's mad how people bury their heads in the sand isn't itSeems strange that we’ve been pursuing other targets in the meantime then
Why? These two things are not mutually exclusive.Seems strange that we’ve been pursuing other targets in the meantime then
A sinking ship? Get a grip man!!Clearly the candidate who had 3 interviews has backed out of joining a sinking ship
On the other side, you'd think promoting an Oxford academy graduate with over 150 apps for the club to, who cut his coaching teeth back where it all started, to a senior job, assisting another Oxford boy nonetheless, would be a good chance for some positive PR. Make a song and dance of it, interview Hackett on what a dream it is, stick some clips on social media of his goals for the club, all the bells and whistles.I'm absolutely certain that it had been an outside appointment then, yes, you're right it would have a stand alone announcement.
He wanted to assess the coaching staff before making a decision while actively pursuing other candidates? Why? These two things are not mutually exclusive.
Yes. It seems perfectly reasonable to me to see how the existing coaching set up was/is, how effective the relationships are while looking at other options too. It actually seems, to me, quite important to cover all the bases. He wanted to assess the coaching staff before making a decision while actively pursuing other candidates?
Why? 4 loans, Beadle, Mills, Edwards and Perkins have returned to their parent clubs. If we replace them with loans and bring in 2 permies we’re bolstering the full time squad.Concerning that out of the 6 potentially coming in, only '1 or 2' of them will be permanent.
