Transfer News January 2021/22 Transfer Window

So you’re telling me Robinson signed a midfielder as our sole left back the summer ? What a load of absolute nonsense. Seddon was a left back in the summer and he’s still a left back now. That would be ridicilous to sign an out of position player for a specialist position.
You're right, it would...

I agree it would be ridiculous. Oh sorry, the phone is ringing, it’s probably Sean Clare wanting to have a chat……..

Can’t understand where you’re coming from with this at all. If the game yesterday shows us anything it’s that KR has done a great job of getting committed players that completely buy in to the success of the club - they may have their own private agenda but good on them for being ambitious as long as they give us 100% while they’re here. We’re a club that helps players on in their career - but they have to apply themselves. The minute he senses Sykes is out for himself, he won’t play. But yesterday we completed the double against a team that’s done what you’re suggesting.

Go ask Ipswich fans on their forum how your suggested strategy is working out for them. Their squad cost more to assemble than most of the championship and their owner was stupid enough to publicly promise they’d romp the league. Yet half way through they’ve had to pay off a good manager early at great expense and still only clinging on to the top half - and their pride. Charlton remain below Accrington!!

It’s simply not enough to throw money around aimlessly in football. you need strategy and a philosophy and at times that will mean having the strength to walk away when your gut tells you something isn’t good for the club.

Doesn’t it give you peace of mind to know everyone we sign really wants to be here?
Look, KR has every right to walk away from any deal he wishes, but yesterday he seemed stressed that someone had rejected us. He took that personally and that is what has me perplexed.
If it's Browne, he has just been earning alot of money in the second tier. He got injured, he's an excellent player, and probably has a lifestyle built around a championship wage. His injury may have left him feeling vulnerable, and he might feel his next contract is key to both him and his family.

All things being equal, he would probably sign for us, but money talks.

In regards to Defoe, money won't be the main driver. Whether he earns 5, 7, or 9k a week is neither here nor there.

Anyway, time will tell.

If Charlton are offering Browne £8k a week for 3 years, and we’re offering 4-5k, you can hardly blame him for going there. You’re talking about an extra half a million pounds, that’s a decent house outright and your future set up

What I've heard, take it with a pinch of salt if you wish. We had agreed a fee with Boro which the fee was higher then Blackpool offered for Brannagan. It was due to complete and then Charlton showed interest in him and was willing to take him on loan until the end of the season paying higher wages. We don't want a loan and now because Charlton have shown interest the deal will unlikely go ahead with us.

Charlton forum saying Browne failed a medical and another post showing an article from a Middlesborough paper where Browne explains that hes basically had a new knee!

Maybe we offered less money after looking into his medical?

That's why we were only willing to sign him on permanently as he isn't match fit currently. He was going to be one for late on the season and to push on next season. Not surprised he failed a medical at Charlton and maybe that explains Karl's interview of telling a player to do one lol

and rightly so...it's clear what the priorities are and as i've said previously the Agent has played a blinder getting paid twice, a Loan deal and then another transfer.

if as reported 8k a week was wanted then we were never in the game ( I hope anyway) and him and his Agent knew that all the time.

it's so obvious that certain posters are going to be very critical come feb 1st but i for one am delighted that we refuse to be held to ransom.

Think the 8k is what he's on at Boro. They obviously want rid though and were happy for him to come here. Sounds like his agent had other ideas and got Charlton interested without telling them his medical history. Don't know where he goes from here now as I wouldn't be surprised if Karl has now pulled the plug on any deal with Browne from now on.

Charlton were only after a 6 month loan but were willing to pay more per week then we were as we wanted him on a 18 month deal with a year option.

Go the Victoria Arms in Marston and you can ask him yourself !

Right, I re-listened to the transfer bit again from KR and typed it out too in case slowed down it made more sense.

The yellow shirt starter? The offer of a Zoom call? Why are we 'way off where we want to be' still?

Ramblings even our Bazzer would be proud of.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

NC: You could have done deals this week but they weren’t the right ones, things can still happen and it’s not all about money. Is that what you said basically before the game?

KR: No. There was a yellow shirt that we were, and – if anybody wants me to phone them on a Zoom and, and uh – I’ve had some great conversations with people, really good people. One or two things have fell flat this week. And, for me, my team means more to me than any individual and if somebody – I’m not going to get into it, it’s not the time – but there’s been some really positive conversations with some people who want to be here for the right reasons. There’s been some conversations with people for the wrong reasons. Shove it. Do one. ‘Cos we don’t need you. Whoever that is.

NC: Sorry, is that players coming in or players here already?

KR: A number of things! Like, this club means more – there’s no one person who is outside this football club or in this football club is bigger than the club! There’s no manager stood on this touchline who is greater than the badge, and the fans, who have been here for years. We are all a cog in that. Some players I’ve spoke to are dead excited about coming here. And can we make it work? We don’t know. But there’s enthusiasm to ‘can we have a conversation? Can we talk about this?’ Brilliant. But should I be chasing people? Should I be going backwards and forwards between a number of people? Shove it where the sun don’t shine. Because this football club is way off where we need to be still. And we’re in those stages – and for me, I am quite comfortable with who we are. And I think that’s err – and it’s not just people who will think it’s them. And there’s six things that have gone on this week and I’ve gone ‘Oh come on! Really?’. And that doesn’t really sit well with me. And there’s been two or three conversations this week where I’ve gone ‘Oh wow! I didn’t expect that. That is really exciting’ and it’s really refreshing. And you have these conversations with people all the time. Some people lift you to clouds and to dream, some people drag you in the doldrums sometimes and err – a player who skips on this pitch is far greater than someone I have to pull onto it. And that’s it. You cross that white line in a yellow shirt, it’s got to mean something to you ‘cos I think it means an awful lot to me, the players and the fans.
I can't really say that I'm ITK, but my extensive contacts* with people at BBC Radio Oxford allowed me to listen to the full interview before the heavily edited version went out "live" on air. So I've now added in the bits that were edited out, and all is clear.

KR: No. There was a yellow shirt[ed player] that we were [trying to get to agree to a new contract], and – if anybody wants me to phone them on a Zoom and [take him off our hands, I'll be more than happy], and uh – I’ve had some great conversations with people, really good people. One or two things have fell flat this week. And, for me, my team means more to me than any individual and if somebody [who bloody well won't sign a new contract]– I’m not going to get into it [by telling you who it is], it’s not the time – but there’s been some really positive conversations with some people who want to be here for the right reasons. There’s been some conversations with people for the wrong reasons. Shove it. Do one. ‘Cos we don’t need you. Whoever that is. [And you know who you are, don't you, you w****r.]

*Well, I do listen to folks at BBC Radio Oxford on match days
