Steve Hardwick was sound at the basics but not exactly agile, and he did have our best ever defence in front of him. One thing I really liked about him was his vocal presence, he was good at geeing players up, spotting dangers and making sure everyone was on their toes.Nobody has mentioned Steve Hardwick. Part of our best ever team. Admittedly he had Bobby Mac in front of him to help out.
Agree with that @SteMerritt best keeper performance in a game for the U's ...Reecey was immense that day....earned himself a full contact on the back of it too. Johnny Lager got the smash n grab winner too.The best goalkeeping performance I have ever seen was Paul Reece at Derby in 1992/3. So many stops as we were battered by them, could have lost by 5 but because of the heroics between the sticks we managed a classic 1-0 smash and grab.
I should not have made this post. So far back for most fans. I remember those days vividly but cannot remember Gerrard in goal. Surely the first signs of senility.Owen Medlock, 1959-1963. Part of our all conquering Southern League team. Did not matter if he conceded as we very rarely scored less than six!

Well you are knocking on a bit, gerrard was quality, came on loan from Everton I think.I should not have made this post. So far back for most fans. I remember those days vividly but cannot remember Gerrard in goal. Surely the first signs of senility.

Gerrard away at Sheffield United...best goalkeeping performance I've ever seen live, in terms of OUFC possibly only Reece vs Derby better, but even that's close.
