General Is Simon Eastwood our best ever keeper?

Roy Burton every time. Mainly because he was not only good, but he just didn't LOOK like a goalkeeper.

Jim Barron for me who if I remember correctly was sold for £100k in 1970. Allowing for inflation, that's over £1.5 million today. Simon's a great keeper but that would surely be way over his value?

Went to see his debut at the City Ground. Think Forest won 2 nil. Good goalie but lousy dead ball kicker. Goal kicks hardly reached the half way line.

Nobody has mentioned Steve Hardwick. Part of our best ever team. Admittedly he had Bobby Mac in front of him to help out.

John Milkins? Old Teflon fingers himself ?
Jimmy Barron and Roy Burton for me. Roy was partial to a moony or two at the LRT on request of course lol
Milkins, jet black hair, perfect parting, never a hair out of place! Played for Pompey so forget.

In my time as an Oxford United Supporter, Eastwood has been the best. That's including Phil Whitehead. I seem to remember the latter being very slow off his line, just like his chant!

Barron, Burton, Whitehead and Eastwood.

Plus an hounoury mention for Ryan Clarke at his best (before he had to have both shoulders operated on)

Steve Hardwick was sound at the basics but not exactly agile, and he did have our best ever defence in front of him. One thing I really liked about him was his vocal presence, he was good at geeing players up, spotting dangers and making sure everyone was on their toes.

Whitehead was immense in the Champiobship. and didn’t we sell him for 200k? A lot of money for a keeper back then

Brian Sherratt in the sixties - couldn't catch a cold. Jim Barron (hero) Roy Burton (double hero) John Milkins (looked like a mixture of 70's porn star, dirty magazine reader and traffic warden) Steve Hardwick (ok keeper with a great team in front of him) As much as I loved Burtie, it has to be (Clint, make my day) Eastwood.

Owen Medlock, 1959-1963. Part of our all conquering Southern League team. Did not matter if he conceded as we very rarely scored less than six!

Just to even things up a bit, how about Alan Judge. Part of the Milk Cup winning team.

Got to be Philly for me. Solid performances and I don't think we've had anyone to match him since, at least.

...but on hair it's got to be Pornstar. Of course.

The best goalkeeping performance I have ever seen was Paul Reece at Derby in 1992/3. So many stops as we were battered by them, could have lost by 5 but because of the heroics between the sticks we managed a classic 1-0 smash and grab.

Agree with that @SteMerritt best keeper performance in a game for the U's ...Reecey was immense that day....earned himself a full contact on the back of it too. Johnny Lager got the smash n grab winner too.

I should not have made this post. So far back for most fans. I remember those days vividly but cannot remember Gerrard in goal. Surely the first signs of senility.

Burton was a bit before my time. I'd say Phil Whitehead, though Eastwood and Ryan Clarke run him close.

Too far back for me, first keeper I remember is Harry Fearnley, I never saw or went to a Headington United match, my first game was during the last season in Southern league, the first season after changing name from Headington United fc to Oxford Unitedfc

Ken Vasey was a decent keeper in the few seasons with us. Came back a few seasons on playing for Dorchester in the facup which ,I think was Oxford United's all time record win 9-1 (or was it 9-2? - hot weather doesn't help recalling things!)

Well you are knocking on a bit, gerrard was quality, came on loan from Everton I think.

Feel that Ben Hinchcliffe wasn't given a fair crack after making his debut in THAT 0-3 Vs Barrow. Oxford's loss, Bamber Bridge & Kendall Town's gain!
