Ex Player Ex-Player Thread

That’s Matt Murphy & Andy Burgess who’ve both said what a tool Kassam is.

Matt Murphy:

“Obviously we all hate Swindon.”

Also, he’s now running a record label?!

Loved the fact that he could remember so little detail of his playing days. Just came across as a decent bloke who put everything into his career.

Was pretty modest about the season he scored 17 goals too.
Always remember his dad (looked the same as him, but in his 50s) being a regular fixture in away ends up and down the country, always on his tod, very unassuming, just there watching with no fanfare.

As you say, some great goals. Reading away my personal favourite (Beauchamp Assist).

I remember going to Notts County that season. Mark Warren passed back to the keeper who missed the ball and it went in. Murphy celebrated like he'd scored.

Ruffels might get some game time in the Championship next season. Forest are looking at making a bid for Harry Toffolo.

I find it odd and yet understandable why footballers do. Andy Burgess was the same, muddling the timeline of when people came and went in his time with us from Jan 2006 to Sept 2007.

As if we remember every project we did, when we did it and what day in the office that amusing thing happened. To them, it's a job and I don't blame them for not remembering every goal, game, opponent, team mate and even season and so on. We're football geeks on the subject, wasting our time keeping knowledge of obscure loanees from decades ago when useful stuff could be in our heads.

For some reason, these 2 goals from Matt Murphy stick in my head. Was a lovely trip. The Goldstone Ground really was a dump by that point.
Think the last time I went to the Goldstone was the season before that, 1-1 draw, possibly Moody scoring for us.

Absolutely.

The increased media and social media focus at the top level means that modern players probably remember more of their stats, how goals were scored and various bits of narrative related to their time at a club.

But for most it’s a job as you say. Also, players want and need to be living in the moment during games, rather than taking mental pictures to talk about in podcasts in thirty years’ time!
