Nixon did mention that wages were still to be agreed, so maybe that was a stumbling block? After paying fees for Goodwin and Dale, and still having a few hefty wages on our books, the club probably judged that Marriott wasn’t worth the financial risk.

Wrexham however are paying over the odds to bring in lower league journeymen in the hopes to rapidly rise up the divisions.

Dale deal isn't done either....

Isn't Goodrham the future as we march on to the Championship and the new stadium ? Isn't this the vision of our owners? Surely we are not going to sell the best home produced player we have had for years just to make a couple of million quid. That's pocket money to them. They have a vision and Goodrham must be part of that.

It may be pocket money, but the club can only spend money that it generates, and we generate very little without player sales. Even the lowest estimates of £2m would enable us to buy 5 Will Goodwins.

And we also have to remember that whilst the Championship and a new stadium is our vision, Tyler's vision might be PL and competing for major honours. I don't think that he would ever be the kind of player to sulk and down tools, but equally it's not healthy having players in your team who would rather be elsewhere.

Of course I'd hope that he stays, but until we get the new stadium we have to accept that player trading is essential to our survival.

I don’t think a new stadium will change that, we will always be selling club, not many that are not.

Newcastle United are owned by some of the richest people on the planet and still have to balance the books to some degree because of FFP so don’t understand why people are so shocked by us selling players.

Dale deal isn't done either....

But it is! You don't keep a deal secret for the entire transfer window without a single leak, then have a player in an Oxford bobble hat, sat next to the head of recruitment at the last home game of the window. And then once spotted, you don't then have him walking around the tunnel at exactly the same time that Radio Oxford are waiting to interview the manager!

The deal is done, and was yesterday. It will be announced tomorrow.

Well let’s just hope that a deal is not done yet and someone actually checks his record.

Bid damning for a Top 30 club mind.

Wrexham’s revenue for 2022 was £5.97million when they were in the conference, since then they have been promoted and their lowest attendance in the league this season was 9771 and since they have got their temp stand behind the goal, they don’t get less than 12000 at home games.
They get millions from tik tok and Disney for their documentary.

So while we aim to be a top 30 club, we have a long way to go until we get there with our limited income streams while Wrexham have basically won the lottery and can outbid teams in league 1 for players.

Kip knows best, look at Charlton, MK Dons, Shrews, along with the £400k we’ve never had to spend on a player yet Goodwin signed this window, why would we not believe him? He’s clearly the forum ITK

You do have a ‘1950s dad struggling to come to terms with the 21st century’ vibes about you, to be fair.

Baldy was very much that.

That’s an interesting take!

I’m late 50’s and in some ways a bit of a traditionalist, especially things like etiquette. Two of my children have black partners and I get on fantastically well with both, so no 1950’s style race debate to be had! One of my other children’s best friend is transgender - stays regularly and someone who’s company I enjoy immensely. A couple of my mates are gay - that’s that subject put to bed too. Not sounding too 1950’s so far is it? And about as far removed from this baldy guy as possible I’d say.

Vote Tory. I’m a royalist, a churchgoer and believe in capitalism and enterprise. If I read newspapers (I don’t) it’d be the Daily Mail or Telegraph. I’d say I was extremely adaptable to 21st century situations, while at the same time maintaining a lot of traditional values. But hey! You don’t know me so to you I’m that 1950’s dad! We need to get back to talking football!

Looks like Blackburn have been trying to sign a striker but the deal has collapsed…may cause issues with Leonard coming here? One to keep an eye on.

How does a deal collapse while a player is on a plane? (Apparently Duncan McGuire, striker Blackburn were signing from MLS, was flying over to England when the deal collapsed.)

That is your choice. Marriott wanted to move closer to Northampton, he was a top target and talks had been ongoing, lots of expectation it would be done today, slow progress, Wrexham ramped up their interest and did the deal quickly.

So for the sake of moving one day faster, he moved somewhere 90 miles further away?

And you believe this?

Hello Uncle Richard, I didn’t know you posted on here as well.

Dropped back in after all the news yesterday, I LOVE THIS FORUM 😂

Tyler G - I think 2.5 million plus add ons gets him, assuming we have a replacement. Anything more is ludicrous, I get some may think the price is high, but in January everyone is priced higher.

Deadline day predictions - I’ve heard chat of 5 players visiting the club on Tuesday, same people said 1/5 would be watching.. then the Dale stuff came out? I’m not saying that’s then gospel, but I reckon we get 3 in today.

We definitely, definitely were. Unfortunately it was a deal we failed to get done despite the player wanting the move, and we move on. I know this from someone very well connected. We are struggling on deals. Disappointing but it's how we roll.

We wanted the player, the player wanted to come here, but he’s ended up elsewhere? Sure, that all checks out.

Without Marriott knowing? Because if he wanted to come here, he just would’ve told them ‘no’.

Try again 🤡
