Apart from the understanding of the game and therefore its quality dramatically improving

Take Haaland, he's not a great footballer in a technical sense but is probably the most feared striker in world football.
Kane comes back as far as CDM to start and link moves, I’ve also seen him put many a ball in from the wide right position!

Admittedly he does drift but I think that's an instinct, similar to how Rooney played. I don't think for a minute any of Kane's managers have told him to come deep, link the play, drift wide right, drift wide left - I can't be certain but I will be amazed if he's ever started a game on the wing since he became an established footballer. Same with Fergie and Rooney, I'm assuming Fergie wasn't instructing Rooney to track a player back into the full back position ? It's the street footballer in these types of players coming out.

Erling Haaland isn't a great footballer in a technical sense?? That's a ludicrous comment

I think it’s sensible when you’re playing a formation that requires 3 forwards (1 being central) to have these hybrid players to cover injuries, suspensions etc.

At the moment we’ve got
Burey, Murphy, Edwards, Goodrham and it seems Dale to add to that for those playing wider. (That we may see this season)

With Harris, Goodwin and GOD as the central.

I think it’s more sensible given the injury record to Murphy and Edwards not expected back until later on, to get someone that can play both. Agyei style but maybe a bit more technical

Is finishing, the act of kicking the ball into the goal, not a technical skill in football?

Well every individual touch can be described as technical, purely on the basis they are professionals. I've seen Moore (Elliott not Bobby!) control a ball out of the sky, a great technical touch. Would I describe him as technically a great footballer ? No, I wouldn't. Technically great compared to me an you because we aren't professionals, not technically great compared to many of his colleagues or opponents.

That's all well and good, but you just said he is an elite finisher? So he is elite at a technical skill?

Well you've ignored the ones I mentioned to make your point.

Not really, I haven't said that you can't be a forward who operates down the middle and have success, you obviously can, but you said no goal scoring forward plays wide, which considering two of the greatest players of all time and the two highest goal scorers of the modern era are coming to the end of their long careers having just done exactly that then what you said is not correct.

I thought Harris showed last night what can happen if your central striker does go out wide.
Also if you think about it when the ball is coming in from the left wing or left midfield area or even left back( Leigh) I would expect the striker/wide right player to be in the box along with the central striker. If you have two goalscorers in there your chances of getting a goal improve massively
This system would encourage the ball to be played into the box quickly, something we haven’t really done for years now

Oh so he's just one lucky bastard!! Making runs is not technical skillset, shooting with accuracy is not technical skillset, finding space in penalty areas is not technical skillset. Not pleasing on the eye maybe and agreed he does not have sublime ball skill of Messi or the pace and athletic ability of Ronaldo or the workrate of Kane but to say he is not great technically is frankly absurd.

OK. Would you say Haaland, bound to be one of the great goal scorers of all time, is as technically gifted as Messi, one of the greatest players of all time ? Would you say Lewandowski, probably the greatest goal scorer of a generation, is as technically gifted as, say, Tierry Henry was ? Which bit don't you get ?

They’re all great players who score goal, but play in different ways. All of them a gifted.

Hearing lots of chat about Haaland in relation to our transfer rumours.

I'd be happy with him joining, but would be inclined to keeping Go'D here after last night's cameo and getting Haaland straight out on loan to Oxford City for the rest of the season.

Seems like you mistake technical gift for pure flair.

Yes but some not as technically gifted as others - that's the simple point I'm making. Haaland, in my opinion, is not as technically gifted as a Messi or Henry or Silva etc etc.

Simples isn't it.
