That's the point. Marriott is your central "hang around the box" and get on the end of chances striker which we have had a totally bizarre allergy to since Matty Taylor. I personally am sick of the sight of wide forwards and nobody in the box.
If Marriott comes in, Harris is surely the candidate to move wider. Buckingham saying a forward who can play wide just makes me think it’s not Marriott he’s expecting to sign.

He played RW in his last appearance for Fleetwood and LW in the game before that. He's also played wide in a front three, on both sides, for Derby, Peterbrough and Sheff Wed. Not often, but he fits the bill of being a striker who can play there.

If anything, even though he played excellently last night, Marriott and Harris can interchange as winger and striker if needed in games. Burey can too so it becomes a possibility that the forwards can become very very fluid against the opposition.

Not a club we want to be competing with in an auction. Great if we can get Marriott and we definitely need another forward, but still seems an expensive one to me when we have two strikers and no defensive midfielder.
Two strikers, yet if Harris burns out or gets injured (with his workload the way it’s been that’s entirely possible) we are then back to one fit striker. We defo need 3.

Games changed you see. :)

Keepers as sweepers.

Defensive/Attacking/Wide midfielders.

Wide or central forwards.

The ball is still round, goals are the same size and that round thing still gets crossed in. It really hasn't changed that much in terms of the role an out and out centre forward plays.

It has, some teams don't even play an out and out forward, Man City won the league the year before they signed Haaland without playing a traditional centre forward in a lot of games. The term false 9 was invented just for that style.

Apart from the understanding of the game and therefore its quality dramatically improving

Wasn't our front 3 at Wembley when we beat York

Midson - Constable - Green

If so, does that make Midson a left winger and Green a right winger? I think both could play centrally as well.

Although Midson could do just about anything. Great tennis player as well.

Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo can/could play wide as well as through the middle. Hylton and Roofe were both forwards who liked to cut in from the wings.
And pure goal machines like Lewandowski, Kane, Haaland, van Nistelrooy, Benzema don't.
