Maidenhead United or Aldershot good choices. Farnborough have many loans from higher up

Farnborough signed Harvey Bradbury yesterday to play up front.

I think National North /South for the rest of this season would be a good level for O Donkor, give him game time and a confidence boost then look to move him up to the national league next season.

The question is where to on loan? Given his lack of progress this season (not necessarily his fault in my view), surely he would be looking at conference or even conference South/North?
Conference would be acceptable but would be looking at the lower end of it. imo he’s put on too much muscle. He’s lost the explosive pace he had last season, one of the first things i noticed this season was the fact that he’d bulked up massively and in my view too much, needs to go out and find out what type of player he is, don’t think he or us know what that is yet.

In we get in Goodwin, it will free up Harris to play wide up front. Probably his preferred position anyway. Will be like signing another winger

I‘m interested to see how performs as a wide forward with Goodwin in the middle, he’s not a winger in the traditional sense, but he is quick and will cause fullback problems.

It would definitely give us another option.

GOD should be sent out on loan & we should be looking at a young highly rated striker. Jude Soonsup Bell at Spurs would fit the bill perfectly.
The problem with getting a highly rated player from a premier team is that they will want their player to get plenty of minutes. Will that be possible if we have Harris and Goodwin also vying for one striker position?

I
He's been here for less than six months and was bought for his "potential". So not surprised that we haven't seen him feature much yet.
was hoping he’d at least get a place on the bench. I’m sure we will see much more of him before too long.
If Ed goes on loan then we will need another keeper. Not sure if Eastwood will play for us again. A lot of supporters have that bad feeling, oh no here we go again, careless hands between the sticks. Reminds me of when Steve Hardwick was recalled as GK to replace Alan Judge when we played at Anfield in March 1986, when we had our heaviest league defeat.

At that time. It has of course been beaten since then, losing 7-0 at Sunderland.

I would say so yes. That why you rotate them. Games will come thick & fast and to have competition will push everyone of them. Goodwin shouldn’t just come in and expect to start. Will depend on form and how he trains.

We need 3. Because if one gets injured you are in the situation we are in now, where we are a Harris injury away from odonkor being the only option (I realise Bodin and Rodrigues have played there but not natural positions)

At the beginning of the month with Beadle returning to Brighton, Mills’ injury and only one starting striker in the first team squad, it was imperative that we signed a goal keeper, winger and striker.

With Cumming, Burey and hopefully Goodwin coming in we’ve done that. Plus sorting out a deal for Bennett and Edwards. Stage one complete.

Stage two, Another striker on loan, another winger.

Stage three, any last minute deals that suddenly become available and would be too good to turn down. Get O’Donker a decent loan move.

Des has already said that we are heavily stocked in midfield, so I don’t see any incomings in that department unless Smyth goes out on loan.

Players returning from injury such as Leigh and Long, with Bodin, Murphy and Negru not far behind.

All things considered it’s a decent window, more work to be done in the summer.

It’s good to see we are going down the route of signing younger strikers with potential, who are able to last 90 minutes such as Harris and Goodwin, rather than the likes of Mackie, Winnall and Baldock who can’t run and looking for a final payday.

If you look at Goodwin as a reference - last year he scored no goals in 12 appearances for Cheltenham then went to the National League with Torquay and got 6 goals in 24 games (2 years older than Gatlin). Maidenhead and Woking are two of the lowest scorers in the NL. Alternatively in league 2 Gillingham and Forest Green are the lowest scorers. FGR might not be a bad shout with Troy Deeney as manager (purely from a striker perspective).

Assuming Goodwin gets over the line I'd still look for another striker, even if only on loan. Gives us another body up there meaning GOD can go out on loan, the last 18 months have been terrible for his development as he's had to play at a level he's not ready for or more often not get any minutes at all.

Also allows us to use Harris as a winger which might suit him if he's got a target man to run past. I'd also like us to look for another midfielder as there's a dropoff if either McGuane or Brannagan are missing but I think we'll see McEachran and Smyth as enough numbers wise.

Can't see Smyth going out. He's now too useful as defensive cover too. If he goes, then I would think we'd need extra cover at the back.

FGR would be the last place I sent him with Deeney in charge, he publicly berates his players after every game and would completely ruin whatever confidence GoD has left.

Morton’s been recalled by Salford
So Forest Green maybe a forward down

It must be incredibly unlikely we'll leave two loan spaces unfilled, isn't it?

Re: the additional/new signings argument, it's a question of quality over quantity.

If you take Burey as a replacement for Mills, you're looking at a decent first loan for Mills versus a successful (albeit short) loan at Hartlepool, and more than 50 Championship appearances for Burey. No guarantee of success of course (is there ever?), but a strong argument that Burey's a potential upgrade. He can also play through the middle. And if he does well, we could have a chance of making it permanent in the Summer.

Cumming for Beadle is, for me, another all-round upgrade. Beadle may develop in to an international-class keeper, but in Cumming you have a guy with bucket loads of experience and success (relatively speaking) at this level, who we may well be able to pick up on a permanent deal in the Summer. There's no way that would've been the case with Beadle. I almost feel like Beadle's recall could be blessing in disguise if it gets us to the front of the queue for Cumming in the Summer, and if we manage to sign him permanently, it solves our keeper problem for the foreseeable.

Goodwin for Perkins is an obvious upgrade; permanent signing versus a loan, lots of potential, and has been scoring for a struggling side.

Bennett signing gives us depth and quality at left back, meaning that we can keep Ciaron Brown at centre back - where he's formed a very good partnership with Moore - and also gives us the option of playing Greg Leigh higher up the pitch, either on the wing if we are short there, or as a wing-back, with Bennet at LCB.

DB said on the Dub that his favoured formations were 3-4-3 or 4-3-3, and that if you're smart in your recruitment you can cover both of those formations. It strikes me that's exactly what he's trying to do.

That's two injuries then.

I wouldn't hold my breath for another striker this window. Three players for one postion when other areas are still thinner than that. I would say Goodwin will be your only striker signing, a winger & maybe a midfielder (that's a doubt), but would love to be proved wrong.

I’d like to think it would be unlikely we wouldn’t get two more loans, but assuming Goodwin goes through, we’re carrying a squad of what 27 or 28? We’re carrying deadweight within that, but a squad of 30 senior players doesn’t feel great.

I think we need a physical midfield player, another winger and another striker after Goodwin, but wouldn’t surprise me if it was just a versatile young forward in on loan until we can cut the wage bill dramatically in the summer.

We only have 20 games left, maybe 23, I can’t see us going beyond two more loans with as has been said above an already large squad in terms of numbers.

The old saying is buy cheap buy twice, we bought crocks and have had to buy twice.
