If the result of all the fitness training, meal prep, fancy performance enhancing equipment is players who can't play 3 hours worth of competitive football a week then there's something wrong.
Why? Even at the top level very few players are expected to do this? It might not suit your view on footballers, but there is no evidence to suggest that professionals should be able to thrive with that workload

A good recruitment team adapts to circumstance and need. If we finish the window with just one more addition then I'd question who the players we 'wanted' actually were, because they haven't done much to fill the gaps that need filling!

If we miss out on playoffs this season (which I think we will), this window will be looked at as a very poor one.
All the traits of Robinson

So you are saying 180 mins a week isn’t sustainable?

Which is exactly why we needed to get fit and ready to go players through the door early in Jan, other clubs have managed it. If we’d only had 2 or 3 it would been a huge help and made a difference. There still could have been further signings later in the window.
Which other clubs managed it? And how are they getting on?

Weren't Browne ,Long , Edwards , Murphy, Leigh's just knocks?? Ended up being out for weeks month's. Let's hope Goodwin's knock is only a knock.

It was clear with Long from the start, that it would be a lengthy one.

I think we forget that Browne and Edwards were injured, brought back (unnecessarily on both counts for me), and then injured again. Browne suffering an injury to other hamstring, Edwards with a recurrence.
Both initial thoughts in the first interviews following those second injuries were that they wouldn't be available into the new year, with later interviews confirming that scans indicated it would be longer.

Leigh was the one that was most misjudged, initially quoted as "at least a couple of weeks" and ended up being a couple of months.

It has been hinted at before that Murphy basically has a permanent hamstring issue that flares up, needs to be managed and can see him miss weeks at a time.
Why he was ever given such a bumper deal for 2 years is crazy.

Seems that the Bodin achilles injury is following the "needs to be managed" route

So peak Marcus Browne, but minus the injuries and plus some consistency? Sounds realistic.
Didnt say that at all. You bring in someone ready and fit so that Browne can then recover without being rushed back. Its then down to Browne to be good enough and fit enough to stay at Oxford. You dont bring in cover for Browne, Browne becomes the cover.

Beadle > Cumming
Mills > Burey
Edwards > Edwards (Out until Easter and mid-April by the time he is match fit)
Perkins > Goodwin

Bennet was already in the building and is the LB cover that we didn't manage to recruit for in the summer.

On the face of it, the business to date does not strike me as being particularly ambitious from the football club. Should we secure 3 players (winger, forward and a proper CM) in the last few days, it will help to improve my personal opinion of this January's business by us.

It has been widely regarded that the squad has clear holes and deficiencies in it, yet we have yet to actually increase the playing numbers of the squad. It seems odd for a club that is supposedly looking to get promoted.

A neat summary of it all. DB tried to put a positive spin on it by tallying up who we had 'signed' so far and he included Bennett, Edwards and Goodhram in that. Maybe signing different bits of paper but they were here already. The only difference with Edwards was that he turned a loan into a permanent. He's still not usable until Easter though.

Same horse, different jockey this season. We all laughed at KR for not landing players quickly enough or giving us false hope but it's happening again. It makes you wonder what occurs above the manager for us to be so ponderous in actually adding to the squad.

However, I won't be too hard on DB regardless of what happens now. He, like Manning was, is still shackled by some very expensive dead wood here that is barely usable at best in Henry, Browne and Murphy. Throw in the wages to pay Findlay as well. Just-doesn't-make-the-pitch-enough-now Bodin and out-of-favour Seddon can be binned in the summer too. Manning got us part of the way there to looking like a more balanced team but we desperately lacked options up front and still do.

Fans have been thrashing around saying all sorts of whacky things in light of Saturday's defeat. It's born out a place of frustration because we were in second once. However, put it this way - we've had over half a season with GO'D as our second striking option. Even with the proviso that you could potentially strengthen in January, is that really what we expect from a side looking to get promoted? Even in 2019-20, we had Agyei to replace Taylor from time to time. The second place was never going to be sustainable without half decent reserves. Our best XI looks pretty good - as soon as you take a couple of players out, we have a fairly pants bench to turn to and have done so all season.

It's why this window and the summer will be where I'll truly judge DB. Anything this season after the mess of last year which is still being cleared up was always going to be a bonus to me.

Really does, doesn't it.

So not sure it it’s 12 pm or 4pm for a signing to be signed and registered to be able to start playing for his new club the next day but if it’s the latter then that’s less than an hour to go
