Ed Waldron seems to have been a bit of a masterstroke of an appointment seems to know how to get difficult deals done. Can't imagine Burey was a straight forward deal having not long signed for his current club and it being abroad. Mentioned in his interview he found out on the new year so near enough a 10 day turnaround.
Knowing our lot recently, he'll still be on probation on a rolling monthly contract coming to work with a 'for sale' sign above his head and then Tim will come out in hives when he eventually goes somewhere that recognises his potential. Or maybe we'll learn from our mistakes?

Does Burey’s signing mean we’re going back to 4-1-2-3? Or will we continue with 3 at the back and he takes one of Brannagan/Rodrigues’ slots behind the striker? Or a new formation altogether…?
Hopefully back to a four. I think a 3 or 5 at the back works against certain opposition and it's good to be flexible as a side but 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 is our best formation overall I'd say.

I hope so, i really don't like the five against most teams - it always seems to end up with Bennett and Stevens having most of the ball and labouring to do anything with it on the wing.

It doesn’t really suit Bennett because he doesn’t have the legs to play it. We’ve only done it because we literally haven’t had anyone available to play on the left and it’s a way of getting width. We will definitely revert back to 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 now.

Yes agree. We could get special wing backs but it's an investment . Leigh is not bad on the wing but i don't even want him being our main wide attacking threat.

In terms of names, for once, other than those that have already appeared on the forum and/or Twitter, then nothing else.
It's definitely hush hush for details of other things being worked on.

Yay!! A signing!! Welcome to Oxford, Tyler
What even if he’s underwhelming? Not sure if people remember but we were in for him before and identified (allegedly) of having a big attitude problem. fact he’s been loaned out to a lesser European league tells you that no decent level league club in England was that bothered. Obviously massively hopes he finds Oxford as a perfect fit but I’m not getting in any way excited due to alleged history and confirmed poor stats.

Yeah he's rubbish, we know that he'll be working in Mcdonalds soon, I mean look at those eyebrows?

I actually thought that Bennett did well at LWB against AFC W, he was in space a lot, we just didn’t pass it to him for some reason. He also set up a great chance for Henry with a clever cutback which saw their keeper make a decent save.

I personally have enjoyed the 3 at the back as I think Smyth could be a revelation in that RCB role, but I can see the logic of going back to 4 at the back - Burey and Murphy could absolutely tear sides apart at this level

Good news on Bennett who's done a pretty solid job whenever I've seen him. I don't think he's as good as Leigh but better than Brown at left back and allows us to play our best centre backs together. There's certainly a difference having a proper full back there who's comfortable on the ball as opposed to Brown out there doing his best. A good find in the circumstances by Ed/Des as well as we picked him up outside the window.

Pleased to see a sensible deal going to the end of the season as well rather than committing ourselves longer term on someone who'll be 34 by the time the summer rolls round. A good move all round.

I think people have judged Bennett unfairly as the last couple of games he’s had to play of late at LWB with no winger available & no real help up top from Harris or Rodriguez to get into the channels he’s looked exposed as that’s not his game compared to Greg Leigh who likes to bust down the left wing & was always known for being a LWB when we signed him.

You're right, we should never offer a friendly welcome to any new players in case they turn out to be crap.

Makes complete sense.

We have 4 league games before the January window closes.

We have lost Beadle and Mills, since the beginning of January, both featured regularly in the first team.

Edwards is out for the season and Perkins has returned to Leeds.

So that’s 3 players Beadle, Mills and Perkins who were available at end of the year and now they are not.

Three available players suddenly missing from an already injury ravaged squad is significant.

Yes I know Perkins wasn‘t being selected but he still needs a replacement, especially as it’s clear O’Donker is only being given 10 minutes here and there in league fixtures. And what of O’Donker, is he going to be part of the squad until the end of the season? if not another player that will need replacing if he goes out on loan.

If we are serious about a promotion push we need a keeper, a winger and a striker minimum PDQ to replace Beadle, Mills and Perkins, now, not at the end of January. Those 4 games and the points they potentially could deliver could be the difference between a playoff spot or not.

If we have to wait for say a further 3 signings until the end of the month, then so be it. But we need reinforcements in to replace the aforementioned 3 players before those 4 crucial January league games.

Yes we have players coming back from injury, but they will have to be managed very carefully and may not be fully up to speed for 2 or 3 games.

With the loss of Mills we suddenly look very bereft of any pace in the side, can we rely on Murphy to be available until the end of the season? History tells us not. One of those 3 we need now before the run of 4 league games needs to be a pacy winger.

With the Pompey game now scheduled for the end of January, we now have Five league matches in January.

Fifteen points available that could make or break our season, a chance to cement our place in the playoffs.

Good news that we’ve signed a winger today, however we could really do with a striker and a goalkeeper PDQ, preferably before the beginning of those 5 games. So that means before this Saturday.

Yes we have players coming back from injury but they will take time to get up to speed again.

If we have to wait for further reinforcements nearer the end of the month, then so be it but we need that goalkeeper and striker ideally in the next day or two.

He’s been accused of an attitude problem primarily by a fan base who themselves are notorious for a serious attitude problem - whose side would you take? No basis to this whatsoever besides him quite rightly giving some back to fans hurling racist abuse at him.

That move abroad always looked odd but we all make mistakes and from the outside looking in it looks like the side who chased him hardest in the summer has not been lost on him and here he is.

Park this rubbish and form our own judgement.

From what I've read about Burey, he's mainly a winger but Hartlepool played him as a striker when he was on loan there. He's been criticised for his touch, the amount of time it takes him to get the ball under control, and his work rate off the ball. He's quick though, and Millwall fans say there's a good player in there if his head is in the right place.

I think he's a risk but if we can get the best out of him, it'll be worth it. A lot will depend on how Des manages him. I'm sure Des' experience will help here as he'll have come across all sorts of players in his travels.

Glad to get a speedy, attacking wide player in, desperately needed, hopefully get a couple more in soon. Welcome Tyler, just start with a brace on Saturday and push on from there.
