Assuming everything is straightforward of course. Which we don‘t know.
But isn’t that a failing of our own recruitment? How high should we as fans be setting the bar for this Assistant who has taken 2 months to bring in?

We don‘t know if anyone or anything has failed, do we? It’s all guesswork.

Midtable, Clearout in the summer, start again in August, IF we were to go up with this lot we will do a Wycombe come straight back down again, the whole club is in turmoil and wants sorting out sooner than later, we have no idea whats going on, nobody is telling us anything, time us supporters were told what the hell IS going on.

On what basis? We have just forked out an (allegedly) decent sum of money for Des, Which was a statement of intent. We've been linked consistently to players that will command either a fee or a decent loan fee. We'll have gained wage room from Mills, Beadle and (Edwards?) As well as anyone else surplus to requirements that will go. We're seven days into the window and we're in a good space to go up if we have a good window. And any off the pitch problems I can't see making a dent in our playing budget. I will hold my hands up if you're right at the end of the window but I can't see it.
From what Jerome said a while ago we basically paid roughly the same money we got in compensation from Bristol City for Manning which got spent on bringing Des in.

If the whole club is in turmoil. I’d be interested to know how you would describe last season?

We are 5th in league one and rebuilding after the last manager left our squad in a real mess. It’s extremely disappointing Manning left when he did. But f**k me when did everybody get so dramatic? I have the agree the club are extremely poor at letting us know what’s going on, but that doesn’t mean we collectively need to assume the worse case scenario all of the time.

Last time out in the league we had an exceptional win given the circumstances and the team we could put out. Have some perspective and a little bit of a reality check in comparison to where we were this time last year. With all this being said- the club certainly faces a very significant month ahead!

Why do we need a clear out?
Leigh, Brannagan, McGuane, Harris, Moore, Ruben, Brown, Thorniley, Goodrham all good enough to be part of a championship squad.

Yes we would need to rebuild to an extent but that was always going to be the case after Robinson left. It wasn’t ever a quick fix.

Expectations just went up a notch due to the excellent start we had to the season. Realistically we are still are a work in progress side but a lot further a head than we were at the start of the summer.

Isn’t it a failure of the process for it to take 2 months to hire an Assistant manager? How good would they have to be to justify that wait?
Exactly.
It all suggests Timmy and co are either being too blasé and unconcerned about the situation, or that they're trying to be too clever, and are over complicating the whole process.

Either way, they're making a f*****g pigs ear of it.

Counter that. Baldock, Browne, Wildshut. Hardly kicked a ball between them.
Sure but Manning brought in Perkins and Edwards ( and Woltman), in one transfer window ( plus Leigh) who have hardly played a lot if football. It does happen.

I can’t answer that. It might not even be that they’re that good that we’ve had to wait though, it could be any complication or reason, perhaps we’ll find out. Perhaps we won’t.
But it goes back to the old, old point; ask the f***ing club?

Exactly.

A genuine question.
If I was Buckingham, I would want my person in as assistant manager.
That is normal within a Company the size of OUFC.
So in all likelihood it is Buckingham struggling to find an assistant that he wants and is available rather than Williams?
If I was Buckingham, and Williams insisted on being heavily involved ( sure he will at second interview stage), I wouldn't be too amused.

Exactly.

And you know that it’s only one of those two reasons for sure do you?!

They are good League 1 players, well not sure about Thorniley his lack of pace is worrying. But only Brannigan is Championship ready. The rest have severe technical or attitude weaknesses that will consign them to League 1.
Playing Coventry showed how far from the Championship this team really is.
No clear our but we are way short of a Champonship club both on and off the field,
Compare and contrast Coventry's development to ours over the past 3 years. The difference is quite staggering.

Is it them making a pigs ear of it? Surely it’s up to Des to appoint his assistants…

But surely you can see that that was a severely, severely handicapped oxford United side yesterday? It was hardly the side we wanted to put out.

If it had been our strongest XI at peak fitness and we’d been played off the park like that, you’d have a point. But that yesterday was an absolutely knackered side down to its bare bones, missing a good 6 or 7 squad players, including realistically 5 starters (Beadle, Moore, Leigh, Edwards/Murphy/Browne, maybe Long, with pace and game changers on the bench), that was 8 days out from looking completely out on its feet against a side one place above us in the league. We’d have struggled against most sides in our league in that situation, let alone coming up against the Championship’s form side, with about £20m worth of summer signings now bedded in and clicking.

There are some things around the club to be concerned about at the moment, but I really don’t understand the relentlessly and unhelpfully pessimistic tone from some.

Compared to the last window we don't seem as well organised/planned this time. Could be because of Manning going/ not long enough for Les to do the planning? If recruitment had found someone maybe they were told to wait till new manager had settled in ?

We are 7 days into 2024 and that is the worse take I think I’ll see all year.

Let’s put this in perspective, with a depleted squad and a managerial upheaval we are still in a position where IF we win our game in hand on Portsmouth we are 4 points off top in the 2nd week of jan. If you had told me this 12 months ago I would have spat my drink out.

Yes we got tonked yesterday, yes we have injuries across the board, but with just 2 points from our remaining 21 games we will have a better points tally than last year.

I am a pessimist, but my god it’s not that bad
