Under-rated: Nigel Jemson (in his first spell with us). Thought he was a really clever forward, but there seemed to be quite a few fans that were a little unimpressed by him.

Also under-rated: John Byrne. I think pretty much everyone rated him at the time tbh, but he seldom seems to get mentioned by anyone these days. Absolute class.

I don’t think there’s anything too controversial about saying that you don’t think Roofe was our best player in 15/16 when you look at that squad. What a team.

One caveat might be that Roofe was a bit broken in the last third of the season. A mixture of injury and playing so many games (including the last half of the previous season) for us when he was still relatively new to mens football.

We’ve seen since that his body isn’t perhaps the strongest, given the amount of injuries he’s had at other clubs.

But you’ve said he was both an important and fantastic player for us, so think your view on the matter is completely fair even if folk don’t necessarily agree.

That's absolutely a fair caveat, and will agree that it definitely contributed to part of it.

I think it stems from the fact that I only really watched us at home that season (only made two league away games, and it was our away form that was really stellar). Our home form that season wasn't actually that great - I think we only won 10 games and lost/drew against some bang average teams. In some of those games I felt he tried too hard to do it all himself when there was quite often a better option.

But as you say, what a team. And what an overall contribution he made to it. Delighted for him he's gone on to have the career he's had, just a shame the injuries have held him back a bit.

Agreed, he's my serious shout for most underrated player. I actually thought the team wasn't set to accommodate him enough during his time here.

He also had a few injuries here which just didn't help him in terms of rhythm.

Overrated. Richard Knight. The goalkeeper in David Kemp's 'team'. I thought he was rubbish. But some people rated him because he got lots of shot stopping practice and dived around a lot.

Probably correct, actually, I was young at the time and was scared shitless every time the ball got anywhere near him. I probably classed him as overrated because he played international football.

You certainly don't like homegrown players !
Chris Allen was excellent for us as a flying winger , Josh,Sam always been solid but nothing overboard, Callum a class young player.
Arendse/Kee were never rated
Phil 'God ' was quality.

'Underrated' and 'overrated' are curious expressions. For the former, I read it as 'missed them after they left' sort of thing and for 'overrated' I read as 'played quite a bit for us but I never really enjoyed watching them all that much'.

Underrated:
Phil Edwards - I put him as my underrated player in the other thread. Joined on loan from Burton and was an excellent RB for a full season. I reckon had he been a few years younger, we've moved to sign him.
Oli Johnson - If injuries hadn't scuppered his time here, I reckon we'd have had him here for longer. Hard working and played for the love of it. His 'Behind the Badge' interview is worth a listen.
Michael Collins - Played a lot in MApp's indifferent 2014-15 season. Binned in favour of others and kind of unfairly, in my view. He could have had a role to play.
John Mousinho - A better player than many gave him credit for. We missed him as a coach and player when he left.

Overrated:
Deane Smalley - A paper tiger striker. Made out like he worked hard but never really did.
Chris Hargreaves - A lovely guy and brilliant behind the scenes. Tried his hardest every time but was just not very good at football. There was a reason he wasn't involved much in the 2009-10 run in.
Luke Foster - Many were stunned when CW binned him off in favour of Jake Wright in December 2009. JW was the step up that promotion winning side needed. Foster was reasonable but a stupid red card against Barrow in the FAC saw his time here come to an end.
Dave Kitson - No amount of talent is worth anything if you don't apply it. Didn't seem to want to be here and tried so hard to get a yellow to miss more matches, he gave away a penalty against Plymouth. A dickhead off the field as well.
Dan Agyei - The stick who many beat KR with. He arrived here a bundle of talent with no application of how to use it, he left the same. Running on the pitch without shin pads and missing an open goal against Fleetwood was a lowlight.
