First game and Boxing Day are always the hardest games of the season, whoever you’re playing.
The most pleasing thing learnt from the Cambridge game, is as a team we needed to win are individual battles first.
For all you full back moaners, the defence first and foremost need to be able to defend. as Barnsley and Derby have just found out.
McGuane and Brannagan have been immense, solid defensively and a real platform to spring attacks.
We had 43% possession by all accounts but what a threat we carried going forward on the break.
Once again possession doesn’t win you games, the better team does.

Disappointed not to have kept a clean sheet tbh, which says how comfortable and in control we were for most of the game.
See, I thought it was inevitable they'd score, and they did, they were no mugs, but I agree we were in control of the game other than a 15 minute period halfway through the second half

We had some saying that Long and Brown could never be in a top 6 club, well, they are tonight!!

But the serious point is that this is a team first and foremost. A team where we will see many different MOTM winners throughout the season and very few performances below 7's out of 10. Everyone battles for each other and we have seen in the last two games in particular that when one makes a mistake someone else is there to recover. You could see how much it meant to everyone when Tyler scored, but also how everyone also went to GO'D.

McEachran looked a class apart last Saturday, but when McGuane came on he was 100% on it and ready to play his part. He then gets a chance midweek and takes it with both hands, and McEachran can now play the supporting role. Same with Bodin and Rodrigues, or Stan and Tyler.

We will be a team where the sum of our parts will be greater than any individuals, and I suspect this is one reason why recruitment has been a little harder as we look at the personality of players to fit into the team as well as their abilities.

No counting of chickens just yet, but a week like this at Oxford United is long overdue and I hope there are many more, on and off the pitch.

Enjoyed the highlights, laughed when Goodrham slotted in the third. Superb week.*

* Unbeaten Bees are buzzing at the top of the S-W Peninsula League (East), too.

I don’t want to get carried away but I have already been looking at outfits for the promotion party game.

It’s a foam hand and nudity just nobody else wears the same outfit.
Absolutely agree. But why save it til the last game? Unanimous East stand nudity on Saturday is the very least these boys deserve after the week they’ve had.

We're now onto bottle number 2 of Lanson and then off out for dinner. Life's good. Now, I need some choice words of wisdom for old salmon pants when he turns up next week.

I would have been happy with 2 points from Derby and Barnsley.

I am having multiple orgasms now.

I too would have been happy with 2 points.

I'm glad that Manning and the players aren't such utter wuss's.

To much of anything can ruin it for people, don’t want people to be bored of my foam hand by the promotion party.

The single most pleasing aspect of the last couple of games for me has been the press in the opposition half. We’ve had countless chances and several goals off the back of it and it appears to me that we are hunting for that turnover possession now and the players are ready and in position to make use of it when it occurs. That’s not a happy accident - that’s about discipline, fitness, teamwork and mentality. And a plan. And those are all about the management. Seeing this team do this now after what’s happened in the last 18 months etc blah blah/less than one completed transfer window is extremely, extremely impressive.

Finishing work and seeing that result felt pretty damn great.

Thank you Liam Manning you've made me feel connected to the club again. What a result!

From a Barnsley forum;

Oxford are a very poor team - but they don’t need to do much because Barnsley are beating themselves.
Never been a big fan of Williams but he is currently essential in the back line.

🤡EXTREEME KNOB HEAD🤡
It’s funny, another poster says we were the worst team ever to win 3-1 at Barnsley. A lot of Derby fans had a similar view and fans reluctant to say they were outthought and outplayed, or point out our movement and quick passing.

If we score early Saturday we can sing ‘we’re top of the league’ when was the last time we sung that?!

As an Oxford fan well no doubt be 0-2 down after 10 but we can dream right?! See you saturday!!!!!

Bloody luvverly result and performance (by the sounds of it).

Enhanced by Swindon screwing up a 4-1 lead. Well done Elliot Lee. And then the cherry on top of the cake was to see that ex-Scummer Nathan Thompson got sent off after 22 minutes for Stevenage after getting 2 yellows.
