General New Stadium Plans - Stratfield Brake

It's not the public funds that is the really issue.
The train station near to Stratford Break is a main line.
Trains go from London, Wycombe, Oxford Station (8 minutes), Didcot ( 1 change circa 45 minutes) and a host if different places.
There may be the Cowley line to the science park, but whether i t will run trains just alternate Saturdays just for football fans? Even if it did the service would be limited.
Cllr Middleton really hasn't looked at this in any detail.

His main item at the cabinet meeting was plant-based meals. His Twitter activity since then has been all about that, suggesting that was his thing. It's little wonder he's delved into the minutiae of detail that the SB development has.

Surely we only take their concerns seriously if they're expressed in iambic pentameter

I've penned something for them:

The U's wanted to move to the 'Brake
And a stadium they wished to make
The county council agreed
As a scout mistress seethed
'Cos every claim of hers was a fake.

Cllr Calum Miller, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Finance, said: “This is a very significant proposal. There are implications for the people of Oxfordshire in general and residents of Kidlington, Gosford and Water Eaton in particular. We have paid very close attention to what everyone has said to us during the public engagement period. We have noted that a majority of all those who participated and of supporters of OUFC wanted to see negotiations proceed. We have also noted that a majority of local residents were not in favour of the council entering negotiations with the football club.

“We are all grateful to the very large number of people who took part. A great deal of rich information was presented to cabinet as a result of that engagement work. We also heard from a number of speakers, sharing a diverse set of views. This feedback will strongly inform the objectives of the council when it enters discussions with the football club.

“We didn’t want to rush into this in January. We wanted to take stock and gather views from the public. We now want people from all sides of this debate to be absolutely assured that their thoughts will have a real influence during the forthcoming discussions with the club. We will be reflecting people’s comments and concerns.

“A key element of the feedback was that people wanted to see more detail. We agreed. For this reason, we do not think it is appropriate to start formal negotiations at this stage. Instead, cabinet approved the start of discussions to find out more about the detail of OUFC’s plans and why Stratfield Brake is their preferred location. This is not a final decision to go ahead and lease the land. The Oxfordshire Fair Deal Alliance is committed to participatory, open and transparent decision-making. As such the outcome of discussions with the football club will return to cabinet for decision in full public view.

That is plainly not true. 500-odd out of a population of 12K just isn't a majority of local residents not being in favour of talks. The majority of local residents at best could be described as neutral.

It's 18k not 12k when you take the population of Kidlington, gosford, water eaton and Yarnton in to account. Not to mention if someone was really against the plans they could of said they live in one of those areas on that survey to falsify the figures.

I’ll fix this. Lend me £100.

That's bought me down to earth. I think it's improbable the councils will ever agree to a new stadium. I think they're going through the motions to say they've been receptive to OUFC'S request but ultimately will say no citing greenbelt concerns and local objections.

I'm sure many more locals would've responded to the survey positively if OUFC had done a mailing like the opposition. The FAQS on the website wasn't great as the majority of website visitors and social media followers are OUFC fans. Trick missed.

I hope it'll happen and I've done all I can but completing surveys and lobbying councillors but I just can't see it happening.

You’ll need more stamina and spirit than this, chap.

It’s a long, long process and it’ll be both emotive and political throughout.

The council also needs to follow process and, importantly, be SEEN to be following process.

The Board and it’s advisors know what they are doing. They have expertise in this. Nothing is guaranteed, but equally there is so much in our favour.

It’ll be a long slog with plenty of ups and downs, but keep supporting this as best you can and if we do things in the right way, it can happen.

80 % who completed the survey were in favour, 2.5 % of the population of Kidlington/gosford/water eaton are against. 96% of local residents didn't bother responding. The vote was to continue talks on a lease with more information being available the further it goes. Normally people only respond if they're against and this is exactly why it has gone to the next stage.

The councils have a decision on wether they allow us to build a stadium for the whole community to benefit from now an in the future or they can refuse but run the risk of the club folding and all the revenue it brings the county vanishing.

It will be a fight yes but oufc isn't a national house builder it's a local football club with 1000's of people backing them.
Don't give up so easy !

It’s now up to the club to show there hand.
To show they are professional and can lobby, present, manage the consultation stage and hopefully manoeuvre the planning system.
They have the money, but are they savvy ? ( I hope so ).
In the meantime, I think “ fans” should sit back, resist comments on social media platforms,
until asked to assist by the club.

Time for the Club to get on the front foot and dispel some of the mistruths and outright BS being spouted by certain councillors.
Put the Middletons of the world back in their box.

A typical vegan 🔔🔚 needs some good protein in his diet, not some 🥑 smoothie flown halfway around the globe at great cost to a far-off lands environment.

Thats better.......................................

In my opinion the club have been exceptionally open, and the FAQ's are an example of gradually feeding information out at a rate where they can be properly digested and also to address concerns as they are raised. They have also been engaging with local sports clubs and council officals for some time and all information has been shared with local media and on socail media.

This is barely the first step in the process and so much more information will be made available as we go towards the planning stage, along with more consultations.

There's still a long way to go, but to read nothing but negativities from this last week is incredibly pessimistic at best.

But then @Joey's Left Boot was only saying a couple of months ago that a new stadium would never happen, the takeover was in question and Bakrie had lost a lot of goodwill and credibility!

I think it's easy to see who is really lacking in credibility!!

It really concerns me that people do not understand what responder bias is. Even more so the very people who commissioned this survey at the council, leading them to release a factually incorrect statement. People with strong views are much more likely to respond. For Oxford fans that responded it meant they were overwhelmingly in support. For those from the local area with no interest in Oxford, those against the project were much more likely to respond. The results were entirely predictable. The only way to truly get a picture is to commission an opinion poll with random selection but this of course costs £££.

I haven't seen or heard anything that I find unduly concerning amongst the many and varied comments this week.

I would expect the Club to be questioned and held to account and to have to justify the development.

I would also expect the Parish Councils to take a position from which they can negotiate.
