Transfer News January 2021/22 Transfer Window

Normally when you offer big contracts, to the contract rebels, you do so knowing there is a serious future return on investment.

Elliot Moore and Sykes' don't fall into that category - neither are going to be £500K+ players or haven't shown they will be. They're bloody good at L1 level but probably a difference of opinion on what they are worth contract wise.

Shipley for Sykes, does seem sensible. When we were first linked with JS, I couldn't understand it as he was clearly and attacking midfield option, not the CDM we craved.

Cam will stay, Rad Ox Saturday seemed to infer that his release clause ends 2 weeks before the window shuts, well we are at that or past it now.

Sykes & Moore can be sold and money reinvested if they do not want to sign a new deal. Agree with other in the future, if it gets to 12 months out from contract expiring and you haven’t signed. Then offer them out for transfer and got closer to their market value.

We desperately need a midfielder who will shield a defence, with the formation and style we play, we need someone in the Kante mould alongside CB & HK, mcguane can replace either of those to but you cannot play those 3 together. It’s been proved the last few weeks it just doesn’t work, it leaves us too open.

We could really do with an Ahmed Kashi type signing...in fact what's he up to these days? :D

Not overly keen on the move south but was happy to sign a 2 year deal in the middle of a world pandemic to play for a club in the USA. Sometimes footballer's decisions/reasons baffle me.
Maybe that’s why - he had such a miserable time in the USA that he vowed to move back right close to family?

There's 4 players that can be shown the door this January and wouldn't miss them bodin ,winnal ,Agyei Cooper what a saving that will be to bring in at least 3 quality players in
Errr....they're all under contract.

You only make a saving if you can find another club who are willing to pay all or some of their wages. Given you've rightly pointed out that they aren't really making the grade here, where are these clubs that are going to take them on coming from?

Browne has only just bought a house in the north east a few months ago. Has family living with him there and is settled. If he were to suddenly up sticks and move back south permanently then that would be a hell of a faff, and the money would need to be enormous for a club like OUFC. One to watch…

The club has enquired about an experienced striker.

How experienced is the striker? Mackie/Winnall or actually still playing the game? Bit nervous given our recent forays into the forward market although we obviously need someone else up top.

Don't have to enquire about free agents do you..?

Might be pricey but Defoe is being looked at by a few league 1 clubs from what I’ve read, wouldn’t say no to him on a 6 month deal.

This concept always seems more difficult than it should.
