The counter to that is do you think a board made up of million/billionaires in the far east are worried about a headline in the Oxford Mail?
Robinson and the recruitment team speak with the various board members all the time. Every manager wants to spend more, on more players, on bigger wages. But budgets are set for a reason and I'd be amazed if we're anywhere near maxing out on what we have available to spend, but that doesn't mean that we will spend silly money.
But what we don't have is time and a deal falling through, or even someone getting covid is really frustrating. It sounds like a deal was done for a left back (Seddon?) two weeks ago but we couldn't finalise it because of a positive case. It's entirely possible that we have had other incidents where things out of our control have disrupted our plans. Gillingham were rumoured to have had an outbreak, and Jack Tucker was a centre back we were looking at. Robinson has spoken before about clubs not following covid protocols and will be pissed if this is affecting our preseason. You also have Sullay Kaikai going to Wycombe, a player we would have looked at. If Wycombe are paying well over the odds in wages on the back of their one season in the Championship, and the way they got that, then that will equally be a source of his frustrations.
Transfer windows are messy at the best of times and there will be numerous factors that contribute to whether or not they're seen as successful. But it won't ever be as simple as Board - Good or Board - Bad.
