and we failed miserably under Southgate in those important games. We wont win anything under Southgate.

So you really don't think that losing on penalties in the final to a team with a far greater tradition of winning tournaments than England is better than a 2nd round exit to Iceland?

That's not progress?

Dominated allover the park? so which was it too defensive or dominated ? Are you seriously suggesting they rang rings round us because all they did in the main was play sideways and backwards the same as us only they did it just inside our half.

Those out there in hindsight world saying it was obvious the Italians were going to score remind me of the many chances they had prior to their goal which was scrappy to say the least.

As for the stats that keep being banded about how strange that when it's Oxford people beat the manager saying all that possession means nothing when passing sideways and backwards yet when Italy do it and failed to beat us they are used to conveniently beat the England manager with..

More shots, more shots on target. more possession.

Forget Oxford . Concentrate on that game.

England were lucky to get to pens. Italy were worthy winners.

Maybe but what was posted on FB showed English dickheads lashing out at a few Italian fans and you think that’s all ok? So are you a dickhead who supports those dickheads or are you someone who may look upon with disgust?
i dont like anyone who does that sort of thing my issue is when other countries do it they never get the media coverage england fans do other countries issues seem to be ignored more often than not like rascism in italy for example .

I don't think anyone's denying Italy were worthy winners, they're a very good side.

That's just not true. Did you not hear about the Hungarians?

Let there papers deal with it but the Italians think they’re prim and proper, but the truth of the matter is England have had a serious hooligan problem since the 70’s, it may have died down come the early 90’s but it is still there and to some extent out press will report it and sometimes they will drag up the past and keep reminding us of it. But someone filmed the incident inside Wembley and the incident outside so now we are back to square one again.

then maybe we should be less of a nanny state like more countries in europe they deal with violent thugs much better .

thats just 1 s**t example isnt really, but there have plenty of good games that weve lost in the past that weve played attacking football and been unlucky, losing to Argentina a couple of times, Germany Portugal and Brazil. If we are going to lose lets lose trying to win.

Not sure why you are trying to convince me to like the way England play under Southgate, you might like it i dont. Even when weve won some of the games under Southgate ive not enjoyed them at all.

Everyone criticising Southgate for being negative, but how many great games have you seen England play in recent years?

My first memories are the 1982 World Cup, but beyond 4-1 Holland in 96 and the 5-1 in Germany in 2001, I can't remember many other classics or games we've won against all odds.

Southgate is yet to build a memorable side, bit they are becoming far more effective on the International stage and have years ahead of them. He has created at unity behind the scenes and manages egos exceptionally well. Grealish and Henderson were both subbed subs in the last two games, players were changed, systems changed, and yet all stepped up and played their part.

We got overrun for 45 minutes in the final against the tournaments form team, but we're the better side for the first half and most of extra time. How anyone can see this as reason to get rid of the manager is beyond me. We will grow and will be better next year in the World Cup or the next Euros in 3 years.

i bet nothing changes for the next world cup.

I hope it doesn't. It's working pretty well as it is.
well we didnt win the competition and we didnt play entertaining football in most of the games, so we didnt get the result or in most cases the performances.

There were plenty in and around Wembley last night who didn’t agree with the feeling on here about Southgate. Willing to give him a chance but he has to adapt to the better players available to him

Can you point me to an international side who you would regard as entertaining? I’d cite France 1998-2000 and Spain 2008-2012. That’s probably it. There’s been plenty of sides I’d admire but even some of the great Brazil sides and Germany teams have been effective by their functionality.

Remember international football is a totally different beast to domestic football. It’s by its nature cagey, slower and defensive. Very very few teams can marry up entertainment and success at this level. Some don’t even bother trying (Greece 2004, Portugal 2016). England have been pragmatic. It’s not always been interesting but if it keeps getting them to a final and post width away from going 3-1 up in a penalty shoot out, so be it.

well i would say we were far more than just a post away when you consider the stats of that game, large parts of that game Kane was 10 yards inside our own half. the result may have been close but the performance was miles away from being good enough to deserve to win. As for entertaining sides, theres probably been quite a few in individual games or a couple of games ,i dont watch every game over a 35 year period.

The England job is almost the definition of a poisoned chalice. If you aren't winning world cups (something only one England team has ever done that only one team in the world can win one in every 4 years!) or the Euros (something no England team has ever done) and you aren't winning every other game by a three goal margin then according to some, you need to be sacked.

The truth is - he has done better over the last two major competitions than any England manager for over 50 years. Is he perfect? Nope. Did I love the football we played this time around? Not particularly. Did I think he made some odd decisions? Yes (whether alternate decisions might have made things better or worse, nobody knows of course). But talk of sacking him is a bit daft IMO.

Who does anyone think would have done a better job? Allardyce?

Well obviously he won’t ever be sacked. He’ll leave and I’m not sure who they’d get to replace him - it would have to be someone who could deal with the social agenda as well and represent the whole country rather than a weird little minority of right wing white men, so not Big Sam.
