Is there anyone who seriously thinks we should keep Sykes at all costs? He may have been important in our run to the play-offs, but McGuane, who would always start ahead of him, wasn't available which is why Sykes played as often as he did.
The question isn't whether it's worth keeping Sykes, the question is whether we should turn down £300k for a player who wouldn't start ahead of Henry, Brannagan, Gorrin and McGuane?
Plus Sykes would get a longer contract somewhere else whilst playing in a more favourable position. It's a no brainer really.

Only one of them can be the best you've seen.Sell Sell if we can get money for him. Best described has a nice player he could go onto be special? I remember the first time I saw Trevor Hebbard now he was a different class. Houghton .Magilton all 3 best I've seen in an Oxford shirt. So he's only got a year on his contract for me move him on and pick up another gem that can grow into the job.
Not convinced about Elliott LeeI'd also add to prospects of us bringing in Elliott Lee, Ellis Harrison or others who can play from the right and Ryan Williams who is already here. Plus we're likely to be strengthen the left hand side, and suddenly there's not many spaces you would expect Sykes to be in contention for.
I really like him but you could say we have too many players like that, skilful and good passers but rather dainty . I’d be glad to have him if the balance is right. Not convinced about Elliott Lee
Sykes looked the better player, but Lee scored and assisted at a very decent rate. That's not easy to find elsewhere. Not convinced about Elliott Lee

Sykes.Would you rather have McGuane in your team, or Sykes? It’s a no brainier. I’m not really bothered what Ipswich do, because let’s be honest, they’re another Sunderland waiting to happen.
He doesn’t have pace/energy and too similar to Henry, so would want better.Sykes looked the better player, but Lee scored and assisted at a very decent rate. That's not easy to find elsewhere.
Henry has been great for us, but last season showed he can't do it week in, week out. Having someone like Lee who can share that role would make both more effective. Between them, they scored 13 and assisted 10 last season without the pace and energy that now appears to be the only criteria for success. He doesn’t have pace/energy and too similar to Henry, so would want better.
We need players who are strong, fit and athletic etc, you know, like the ones Blackpool had.
Earlier post Houghton best then Hebbard then Magilton would love anybody to that standard. I don't think Lee or Sykes are the answer thank goodness we don't have to find them.
Hebberd best midfield player I have ever seen for us. If he had played for a more fashionable club, he would have won 20+ caps for England. And for anyone under the age of 45, yes he really was that good!! Magilton a very good player but lacked pace. Houghton lots of energy. But neither of them as good as Hebberd.Sorry Hebbard all day long
