Is there anyone who seriously thinks we should keep Sykes at all costs? He may have been important in our run to the play-offs, but McGuane, who would always start ahead of him, wasn't available which is why Sykes played as often as he did.

The question isn't whether it's worth keeping Sykes, the question is whether we should turn down £300k for a player who wouldn't start ahead of Henry, Brannagan, Gorrin and McGuane?

Plus Sykes would get a longer contract somewhere else whilst playing in a more favourable position. It's a no brainer really.

I'd also add to prospects of us bringing in Elliott Lee, Ellis Harrison or others who can play from the right and Ryan Williams who is already here. Plus we're likely to be strengthen the left hand side, and suddenly there's not many spaces you would expect Sykes to be in contention for.

Sykes wouldn't be anywhere near my central midfield. CB, MM, JH and AG all go before him. We will probably bring in other options centrally too.

So, on to a wide man... one of the first things you look at is assists followed by goals. Discussion over.

I will Chuck my thoughts in as well for good measure. Whilst Mark Sykes was probably our best player in the two playoff matches versus Blackpool, and his attitude changed when back in the first team. He still has a hell of a lot of growing up to do. He’s got to work on his finishing, and final ball more. The other thing that really winds me up about Sykes is he loves giving g stupid fouls away. Jumping in to other players when the ball is in the air, which then puts pressure on our defence, and we are on the back foot.

I don’t think he’s developed to much since his move here, and perhaps another club will be able to, although I’m not so sure, because we have a habit of bringing players in, and then they kick on to better things more often than not.

If £300k is what’s offered then I’d snap there buying clubs hands off.

Also making sure that we hold firm, and it’s the only departure during this window.

Sell Sell if we can get money for him. Best described has a nice player he could go onto be special? I remember the first time I saw Trevor Hebbard now he was a different class. Houghton .Magilton all 3 best I've seen in an Oxford shirt. So he's only got a year on his contract for me move him on and pick up another gem that can grow into the job.

Only one of them can be the best you've seen.

Earlier post Houghton best then Hebbard then Magilton would love anybody to that standard. I don't think Lee or Sykes are the answer thank goodness we don't have to find them.

i don’t think we will sign Lee, at least I hope not. Not that I think he’s a bad player, he isn’t, but I’m not sure he offered us enough. Think we can do much better than Lee and Sykes and need to be striving to find players like McGuane, players who look like they’re bossing matches rather than just drifting around the pitch with the odd flick here and there.

He doesn’t have pace/energy and too similar to Henry, so would want better.

We need players who are strong, fit and athletic etc, you know, like the ones Blackpool had.
Henry has been great for us, but last season showed he can't do it week in, week out. Having someone like Lee who can share that role would make both more effective. Between them, they scored 13 and assisted 10 last season without the pace and energy that now appears to be the only criteria for success.

Sorry Hebbard all day long
Hebberd best midfield player I have ever seen for us. If he had played for a more fashionable club, he would have won 20+ caps for England. And for anyone under the age of 45, yes he really was that good!! Magilton a very good player but lacked pace. Houghton lots of energy. But neither of them as good as Hebberd.
