General What needs to change?

Player retention is important. The model to sell always seems to bite us. I understand that it has been a model that works for us but it always gives us a slow start to the season when new players are learning each others game. Our defence for the begining of the season to now is night and day. We do have players which need unloading and there are a couple of players I would love to see stay (Barker, Lee).

This may be true but it's insufficient, speaking from the logical point of view. Some teams invite injuries by recruiting knackered players (e.g. Thorne, Holmes, Winnall, Mousinho etc) and by playing injured players or recovering players too soon. Some clubs are less unlucky than they appear. Yes, I'm talking about Oxford United.
Mousinho recruited as a knackered player? He has played well over a hundred games for us and played 120ish games for Burton in the 3 seasons before joining us.... hardly recruited as knackered. The other named players no arguments!!!

Oh, OK. He was knackered at the start of this season, when he was the only 'centre-back' cover.

Bit mean about Mous who played over a 100 matches and was very good in the majority of them ...the others yep agree .

I would also love Barker to stay but haven't been overly impressed with Lee, he undoubtedly has quality but gives away countless free kicks, loses possession and he looked like a typical loan player chasing down last night which led to the pen etc.. Just give the foul away on the halfway line and take a booking!

They might not significantly increase the budget because they are here to make money rather than spend it.

I'm not sure their ultimate aim is to grow brand Oxford.

How are they making money without spending more exactly?

I`ve got absolutely no issue with "missing out" as long as the Club survives and doesn`t over stretch itself to achieve an unrealistic goal.
Purely based on result`s we are where we are and in with some fairly big hitters such as Sunderland, Portsmouth, Charlton etc.
Effectively we are punching above our weight and playing some superb football to boot.

What we lack is consistency, we always seem to have a "blip" either early on or over Christmas, and the ability to be more fluid/react when the opposition changes their approach.
Why can`t we throw on subs at halftime?
Why do we sign players with "dubious" medical historys?
Why do we play players that are not "match fit"?

Dunno.... it`s Oxford not Brazil. ;)

1. Sign proven fit players in their correct positions. Dont try and be too clever with recruitment.
2. KR to accept that he has as much tactical nous as a stick of rhubarb. Find a tactic, stick with it, have one as backup. Avoid the Northampton stylee tactical brain farts.
3. Get us ready for day 1 of the season. A third season of a relegation start would be utterly unforgiveable. Mixture of fitness, ball work and recuperation. Not hammering.

A buyout of his contract doesn't necessarily mean we pay him a years salary. He may think it's time to find a new club while he still has chance, otherwise he will be out of contract next summer and may have to drop in to the conference to find employment.
Hence the suggestion we might pay 30% less than that, but he’s not going to give up £50k that’s owed to him unless he’s got a club lined up. If that was likely, we wouldn’t need to pay him off. I think for the reasons you’ve stated, it’s highly likely he goes in January rather than July.

But isn't it a third under Robinson?
No. This is his third full season already. Every season we have been in and around the bottom four after 12+ games. Season one started with the 4-0 at Barnsley, last season was the 1-1 at Sunderland, this season was the 2-0 at Lincoln. He’s already had three; if we start really badly again next season it’s number four.

A lot of short memories!

Yes it is. 2018/2019 season started with 4 straight defeats including a 4-0 thumping by Barnsley. This was Robbo's first season in charge.
Correct. Meaning next season would be a fourth.

Sorry I thought he had only been here 3 years as he joined us halfway through the 2nd half of a season after Pep was sacked, must have got my fates wrong........ I am getting on you know🙂

Ah sorry I thought he had only been with us for 3 years as his first season was trying to keep us safe I stand corrected

2017/18 finished 16th (KR arrived March 2018.)
2018/19 finished 12th.
2019/20 finished 4th
2020/21.............. ???

Looks like an inconsistent improvement to me...... ;)
