Away Match Day Thread 27/02/2021 L1 MK Dons v OUFC

You're right, he's a world beater, thank God he's here
Your attitude towards Shodipo is bizarre! Marcus Browne was accused of being in and out of games, and as recently as the playoffs some were saying that he did nothing apart from his goal. Gavin Whyte also had a number of games where things just didn't click. Wingers, particularly at league one level, are a bit hit and miss where they can almost disappear in games before finding one piece of magic.

Shodipo wasn't even that bad yesterday! He put a real shift in during the first half and created a few decent chances. He could have shot earlier, or find a better touch at the final moment, but that applies to the whole team. He also faded in the second, but again, the whole team did until 75 minutes!

So he may not be a world beater, but yes, thank God he's here because without his goals we would be several places lower in the table!

All I can say is that last week Winall backed out of a challenge with the keeper, this week Agyei put on the afterburners and managed to challenge the keeper knowing he was going to get taken out. Matty wouldnt have backed out either but he wouldnt have had the pace to get there. Didnt hear what Karl said about Agyei after the game, but I would like him to come out and publicly state that Dan is the back up striker. Im afraid Winnall just doesnt look mobile enough or fully committed.

Really petulant attitude when someone's actually provided some evidence for their argument.
I’m just frustrated that Robbo bleats on about wanting wingers, then when he finally brings some in, it’s a guy (Barker) who hasn’t completed 90mins for THREE YEARS, and a guy (Shodipo) who’s ball control and positional awareness is awful, and is so naive and inexperienced, that at times he looks like he doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing. And these are supposed to be our first choice wingers?!?

And to make matters worse, Robbo then plays BOTH, when it’s obvious that they’ll leave us horribly exposed when we haven’t got the ball, and then plays a style of play that doesn’t effectively utilise either of the wingers on the pitch anyway!

Ok I accept I was a bit petulant with my response, and he has scored some important goals, but as a team, the wheels have been coming off for a while now, and I think regardless of the goals Shodipo has scored, or the occasional bits of skill from Barker, they are making us a weaker TEAM when they’re on the pitch, and now it’s costing us, and I personally would only use them as impact subs, as I feel they weaken us when played from the start, whereas I feel we have much better starting options available.

The style of play is one thing, and we maybe didn’t get the ball enough to the wingers feet yesterday, but horribly exposed? The game I saw we dominated, with MK barely having a chance - and their goal came from not having enough players in the middle

Because once that bank of 3 in the 4231 was breached, which let's face it, with Shodipo and Barker in that 3, was always going to be easy, we were only left with Gorrin and Brannagan to try to stop them advancing on us!

Its not even a formation that suits having out and out wingers, let alone wingers who don't track back and defend, and if we play that formation, with Shodipo and Barker in the 3, against better opposition, we will be punished severely for it.

Just watched these having missed the match. It's all us! And Agyei does figure a lot. Hilarious that the goalie wasn't sent straight off. The pitch looked really terrible, more mud than grass, which doesn't help us. We will rise with spring!
Also just seeing the highlights - interesting to note comments about agyei chasing down keeper when Taylor wouldn't, given that literally the second clip is Taylor nearly forcing a goal by chasing down the keeper. Mind you, some would say Matty could have seen red for two footing him!

I can also see why agyei being brought down could be seen to be not a red, as it happened quite a way out, agyei was heading out to the corner of the area so would still have had quite a bit to do which would have allowed the defender to get back.

Also interesting to note the commitment to the cause of Lee, who knows he is aware that is likely to need a new club in the summer and the two wingers who appear to think their futures are all in hand.

Never sure about starting with two luxury wingers anyway (couple of good moments, long periods of anonymity, little work defensively) as this puts a lot of weight on the other 9players, especially the one on his own up top. Off the bench, definitely, one starting, perhaps, both starting, nah. Do we really think Dan would thrive starting in a front three with those two flitting in and out (and mainly out) of the game?

Just a quick note that the highlights don’t really cover the solid hour of the game (from 15-75 min) where we were largely shite and where most of the criticism of players like shod, lee, barker, taylor will be coming from.

I can't see where criticism of Lee came from, he worked hard and kept trying all match.
Shodipo and Barker played like typical wingers. While we were so bad MK didn't have a shot on target .
Pitches don't help make for a good game of football but it wasn't as though we were outclassed and defending desperately to stay in it.

To be fair I think the comment said that Taylor would chase down the keeper, but maybe lacks the pace 😉.

Either way he got to the keeper and was unlucky to see the rebound go over. Having said that, if it had gone in my money would have been on the ref giving a free kick, some his decisions were that bad.

Why were we lucky? Look at the highlights, they had one decent chance and scored. We had a number of chances and the least we deserved was a point.
Maybe if Agyei has been brought in earlier we may have scored another but until he came on we didn’t look like we could hit a barn door

But goalkeepers are red carded for handling outside the area so a yellow yesterday after their keeper brought down Dan was the wrong colour card.

Let's be honest, if Taylor had gone in two footed like that anywhere else on the pitch, it would've been a straight red!

But he also has utterly crap games as well when he doesn’t even look like a professional player.I think it’s about 50/50 on good and crap performances from him.

Because he is being played in the wrong position by our stubborn manager.
