Away Match Day Thread 27/02/2021 L1 MK Dons v OUFC

Stevens was slow to get his feet moving and get down to save their goal. We could've win it, their keeper made two saves after he should've been sent off and we hit the post. Not sure what their manger was banging on about!

People have very short memories.
Matt Taylor has not been good recently but is a terrific goal scorer.
He will come back and score lots of goals.
How do you know that? It could be pure fantasy.

Happy with the deserved point, keeps us in touch as a lot of teams above us seem to be going through a similar type wobble. We are going through a spell of dreadful refereeing though. Maybe it will be our turn soon for someone at referees HQ to say to the next referee in charge of our matches that we are owed a few decisions after what they have dished out to us the last 7 days.

Sometimes you need to look at the conditions before naming the team. There was no way that pitch suited players that run with the ball at feet, so to play Barker and Shodipo from the start was a mistake. It was so obvious it was not going to be their type of game.

Great to get that last ditch point (and it was well deserved), but it was the same old, same old from recent weeks.

The Back Seven were super-solid (once Ruffels got a bit closer to their tricky winger in the second half), made MK look pretty ineffectual most of the day and created a great platform for the team......

....and the front four were mostly a mess and generally squandered it.

Agyei was the most dangerous amongst them once he got on, and should probably start the next game, but we know what he is (quick, strong, causes defenses problems) and what he isn't (a goalscorer, or defensively helpful). He's not going to suddenly change everything round on his own.

Barker and Shodipo are both luxury players, and shouldn't start at the same time. Wouldn't cry any tears if they were both on the bench midweek.

Lee is busy and looks useful, but I think we're only going to threaten the playoffs if Taylor & Henry find some form. When those two play at their best, we're a completely different side.

Maybe Robbo should make his substitutions sooner who knows we may have scored another goal.
It would probably help if once Robbo has decided what changes he wants to make, the players were fully kitted up, and they didn't b****r about putting heart monitors on, that would get them on 10 minutes earlier!

In Taylor's defence, we were getting the ball in to Agyei, and providing him with a level of service and support that Taylor simply hasn't been receiving.

For me, Barker is an impact sub, nothing more, it's been evident since he's been here, that he puts in minimal effort, unless he's faced with a chance to run at the full back, and even then he gives up if he's faced with a fight for the ball, it's unacceptable, and doesn't warrant a starting place, and I can see now why he's not getting a look in at Rangers.

Shodipo is crap, constantly loses possession, and looks utterly clueless, I'd rather have Rob Hall back in the squad, at least he's capable of actually passing to a teammate.

Pleased with the result, but disgusted with the performances of Shodipo and Barker, they looked like they couldn't care less, and should take a leaf out of Lee's book, he fought from start to finish, and didn't look like a player in on loan.

We need players who are prepared to put their bodies on the line, and fight for the cause, which is exactly what the subs did today when they came on, so for me, the team that finished the game should be the team that starts on Tuesday, with Shodipo and Barker nowhere near the starting lineup.
Agree about Barker. Seems to be a one trick show pony most of the time. But looks like he can make something happen a couple of times a game. So a bit of a luxury!! Don't agree about Shodipo. He's certainly not crap that is very unfair. I'd say he's frustrating but most players of his type are. He has the best goals ratio at the moment and has scored some vital goals. Probably better at having half an hour than starting. But Hall instead of him? No thanks. I thought you said you wanted players who would put their bodies on the line, when was the last time Hall has done that?

I wouldn't cry any tears if I never saw them in an Oxford United shirt ever again!

He's not a goalscorer? Didn't his goal along with Ruffles last year at Shrewsbury get us in the play offs? He also nearly scored twice in the 20 minutes he had on the pitch today. He is a striker but Karl keeps trying him as a winger and expecting him to learn that role .

Agyei was more dangerous in the last 20 mins today than the rest of the front 3 have been in the last 340 minutes of football, If Robbo doesn't give him a chance now in the team serious questions needs to be asked why.

Shodipo can certainly score goals but as a 90 minute team player he doesn’t seem great. He just doesn’t get enough crosses in and he does too many silly things.

Ok fair enough, I was exaggerating when I said I'd rather have Hall, but I was just trying to highlight how unimpressed I've been with Shodipo.

Like you say, he scored a few vital goals when he first arrived, but apart from a good 20 mins when he came on as a sub against Rochdale, has offered virtually nothing else at any point, he loses the ball constantly, gives away fouls, and literally runs the ball out of play at times, and looks like he doesn't really have a football brain.

Like Barker, he's an impact sub, nothing more.

How many goals has Shopido score this season, yet you call him crap? Yes he is raw and has lots to improve on but calling him crap says more about you than him.

I take it you were joking about rather having Rob Hall back in the squad?

We only really threatened them when we had pace down the middle. Agyei did well because he was fresh. Most of our team looked absolutely shattered. I have sympathy because most of the squad have had six weeks off since June 2019. I’ll continue to say this as well; bobbly dry pitches don’t suit our style.
A starting place must also be found for Forde; he’s been more lightly played than most and rarely lets us down wherever he plays.

Thought MK had the best tekkers of any opposition seen this season and see them as being promotion contenders next season.

So all in all not a bad point.
Think we could do over Peterborough on Tuesday, we always raise our game against league leaders.

Come on now
Certainly don't want them anywhere near another starting lineup, when they start, they hinder the teams performance, and stop us getting a foothold in the game.

Such players are only really useful when chucked on when we're chasing the game, with nothing to lose, against a tiring defence, but when it's all to play for from the start, having players on the pitch who offer nothing when we haven't got the ball, is a liability, and shouldn't happen.

Yes, I was joking with my Rob Hall comment.

But I'm sorry, from what I've seen so far, I don't rate Shodipo.
