Sport Cricket: Winter 2020/2021

I think that was probably in favour of India by the end, although a closer day than it looked like being at one point. Runs on the board are key. We certainly need to get the rest of the wickets for less than 75 more runs.

Lot more optimism on here than the two over by over reports I read. I think chasing more than 350 will be very tough for England. I can see us getting around 250-300 first innings maybe.

Agree. Strauss was suggesting that India will be far happier than England.
Somebody was suggesting that the pitch had been designed for Ashwin.
England (and Root especially) will have to bat out of their skins to stay in the game

India 329 all out

Disastrous start for England

Burns, Sibley & Root all gone cheaply in the first 10 overs

Oh Dear

Wow 8 wickets fall in that morning session!
Lunch on Day 2

India 329 all out

In response England are 39/4

Lawrence out last ball before lunch. It’s going to be hard work from here.

Stokes falls, England 53/5

beautiful bowling from Ashwin, Pope and Foakes Out in the middle now.

This was on the cards from the moment we won the first test. The pitch is a disgrace. The picture I posted showed what they were planning. For the ball to do what it has in the middle session on day two is appalling. Just like the umpiring. Typical behaviour by the Indian authorities when on the back foot.

Just switched it on, wow! Collapse.
Its been painful watching England batting

Follow on is inevitable (if enforced)
And that was after bowling India out for 329 which at the time looked reasonable

Looks like its A st valentine's day massacre in India

106/8 Ben Foakes has looked solid.

As for the pitch, well it’s not good for test cricket to be honest. It looks like it’s been prepared especially for the Indians. You want to see a fairer match, and this is not! Ashwin is from Chennai/Madras, and it’s been carefully prepared for him. It’s playing like a Day 5 pitch, and should not be doing what it’s doing end of Day 1 and 2.

There is not reverse swing like the first match, and I’m sure the next venue, is being carefully prepared for the Indian team up in Ahmedabad.

Big shame, because this had the makings of a very good high quality test series.

Disappointing but not at all surprising.
I only watched a bit of Day 1 and 300 appeared to be a massive score on a Day 5 pitch (on Day 1).
As somebody suggested England's only chance was to win the toss.

Only saving grace is that it is a day night test with a pink ball so should Sid the swing or Anderson..

The ICC should (they won’t) certainly look into the pitches and I’m not sure if this is true but I heard a while back that all pitches nowadays - certainly was before Covid had to be done with a neutral ground steam or the match referee watching closely over its preparation. Either way, whilst hot forgetting some poor bowling - Ali went for over a 100! Bowling and poor shots by the batsman - Burns needs to go and maybe even Lawrence too. England have been very poor.

It’s hard to apportion any blame on England really. Lose the toss and this is what happens.

Is this a good advert for Test cricket though? Vipers in the pitch by the third session on Day 1? Not for me, Clive.

Let’s have India back in the summer and beat them on some proper pitches.

Avoided the follow on ...then leach goes ....heres hoping foakes and Broad can miraculously provide some kind of respectability
