NEW MANAGER: {enter next candidate here}

Trouble is this is an open ended argument as it’s based purely on personal opinion.
Some want a quick appointment, some see the sense in doing a proper interview process, some can see the benefits of both.
I doubt there is any evidence that ether quick or slow appointments have better success in the long term of the club.

Is there any reason for dragging it out? In my opinion no, for Darryl there was it saved him making an appointment. For tiger ? He wants a new guy in as much as the rest of us, more so maybe as it will hit his pocket if were relegated. So the only reason for a delay is negotiations or people saying no. If it’s the second he would easily find a phil brown of this world happy to say yes straight away but what does that benefit us.

And it being open ended will no doubt carry on once he makes an appointment, with some pleased, some disappointed. And we won’t know who’s right on that until a fair way into next season anyway so best to just get behind whoever and support the team for the run in

Tiger is NOT responsible for the current situation at the club, however he has been « involved » behind the scenes for a number of months and most people agree that the current managerial position is not ideal. It’s getting to a situation that maybe we stick with Faz until the end of the season that would at least give some stability. We have some of our best players coming back to full fitness and I’m sure that we have the quality to keep us out of the bottom 4. Our biggest threat is the instability that we have at the club, by sticking with Faz would I feel settle fears of relegation. Then again I could be wrong.

Unfortunately, I think you are. I don't think we have seen anything much in Faz's brief stint so far to indicate that the ship has been steadied in any way. For me, most worrying is that defensively we look as bad as we ever did under Clotet - and I thought that Faz would at least get the defence organised and make us harder to beat. It is quite possible that we simply don't have players capable of doing that, but there doesn't seem to have been much of an attempt made - apart from a bit less tippy-tappy at the back I haven't seen much change (marking, tracking back from the wide midfielders, more solidity from the midfield in front of the defence, geeing each other up, moving into space to offer an option etc).

Faz had never been a manager - and I don't think he is one now to be honest. I would like to get a solid experienced manager in who knows the English leagues and knows how to make the most out of limited players. What we don't need is a 'name' who 'interviews well', whether from here or overseas.

My hope is that the time taken is down to the process being extremely thorough because the manager needs be able to lay the foundations for the execution of a 5-10 year plan, where we develop young, exciting players and play an attractive brand of football. Wouldn't at all want a journeyman type for the here and now, setting up teams to just grind out results.
A 5 -10 year plan would not interest me. I doubt I will be around that long! So an appointment ASAP please.

We have looked more steady at the back, how much that’s down to faz and how much is down to dickie and kane just being better than what they replaced I don’t know. My biggest concern with faz staying is his inflexibility with tactics. Other than Charlton which was forced on him, games like Bury and others , he’s stuck with a formation that’s not working making changes only in same positions. In games to come, especially against the 4 that are below us, a manager that can adapt the formation during play could be invaluable

I agree that Dickie is an improvement. And yes, Kane does look decent. But let's take the Northampton match (from which I think we were very fortunate to take a point). They made several chances in the first half from which they really should have taken at least one, possibly more. We were so vulnerable down the sides it was unreal, and the marking in the middle was laughable. Add in the lack of protection that any of the midfield gave to the defence and while I think you are right in that we 'look' a bit more solid it is not exactly making us hard to attack. Probably the wrong thread for this discussion really! I do agree that Faz seems fairly inflexible and would add that any changes are delayed far too long.

Christ how many times do we have to hear this, err i think they might be looking for a solid experienced manager, obviously theirs none out there, well there are, problem is they have all been sacked from their previous clubs, we need another Mapp. Bellamy fitted the bill but it looks like Tiger wants to pick the team, do the team talk etc. Think how much the club has saved on a salary had they made an appointment, what is it six weeks ago now, must be getting on for £10k. Make no mistake about this is the second time we been sold down the river

10k? Think edging towards 30k. Pep was on the same salary of mapp i believe which was 250k per annum if bbc reports are to believed . Which is just under 5k per week.

So they are looking for an experienced manager, but are selling us down the river by saving money by not appointing one? "There are no experienced managers out there, oh yes there are." 'Bellamy fitted the bill' - not that of an experienced manager he didn't. Mapp did have experience. Sol Campbell doesn't, Frank Lampard doesn't, etc etc. MApp had also been sacked from previous managerial jobs - as will virtually any manager in the world you care to mention. That's a pretty confused post!
So - do you want an experienced manager, a new manager, a technical coach, a big name?

I'm sure we will get an announcement (and possibly a new manager) 'within 48 hours'.

It's just that I am not sure which 48 hours we are talking about.

?

Well it dosent matter does it they are all a gamble, they will fall off the roundabout and get back on again somewhere else.
What you should be more concerned about is the quality of the players on show, and are they able to get us out of the current situation, do you know in 2006 i never thought for one minute we would be relegated to the Conference not Oxford United the rest is history my friend

Well quite. It's a bizarre conspiracy theory to contend that the reason Tiger is taking his time to appoint a manager is so as to save a piffling amount of cash, and thereby risk relegation.
As for those wanting Faz to stay, come off it! We have 4 points from the five or six games that he has been in charge, and three of those were accrued in five wonderful crazy minutes at Charlton. If we carry on our present form - and get 4 points from our next six games - we will very likely go down.
The absolute first priority is to secure our League 1 status, and we need a manager who can get the traditional 'bounce'. Even if that guy gets fired in the summer then he will have ensured that the one asset we have is secured as a base to build from.
Because knowing the finances of the club as I do, I cannot agree with Dave T that relegation to League 2, on our current costbase, would be anything other than an unmitigated disaster.
Tiger has been bequeathed a total mess (in more ways than is immediately apparent) and is going to need us to get behind him in the crucial weeks ahead.

Yes, I agree that the players are a poor bunch (with some exceptions) - but we cannot change them, whoever is looking after the team has the same lot. The only way to improve is to use the same players better, instil more confidence, give them a way of playing that they can cope with, train them smarter, get them fitter, be more dynamic with changes in tactics/formation/players during a match. And for that you need someone who knows what they are doing.

It's a mindset issue. Faz isn't changing the players' mindset or inspiring confidence. This is why we need a manager.
Faz/Allen in charge on Saturday would be Groundhog Day. Uninspiring, uncompetitive performance, full of the same post match drivel. Poor old faz will be back up to 60 a day if this goes on any longer. We have to get a result Saturday, as it’s against a team down amongst the dead men. It simply needs the new manager bounce.

Agree, anyone who thinks dropping to league two is anything other than a nightmare (especially financially), needs to share round what they're smoking. I still feel in some weird surreal dream since that press conference, and the lack of steering this ship away from the iceberg we're shifting towards.
