General George Thorne

There is no question that Thorne is a hell of a player - he's spent his whole career above League One level. So providing KR manages his game time sensibly (that might be something like playing friendly/youth games for the next few weeks to get match fit, then when ready playing an hour every other game), he could really make a big difference to our promotion push. He's had a horrendous time with injuries but important to remember he's 27, it's not like he's a 34 year old whose legs have gone and will be a passenger in the midfield. This signing makes perfect sense for both parties, Thorne has stated he's really enjoying his time here and and it's a low outlay for someone who has the potential to be exceptional for us.

It’s a very sustainable deal I reckon..

In all seriousness though, I hope he gets himself fit and enjoys a few more good, injury free years in the game.

I don't think he's mobile or fit enough yet to play any position other than the 'quarterback' role, i.e. deep lying midfielder, spraying a few passes around. If we triy to play him further forward, such as either side of the midfield three, he will get exposed in my opinion.

He's good as backup/an option off the bench, but I very highly doubt he'll be starting matches anytime soon.

You may be right, but in a home game against ‘lesser’ opposition where we’re expected to dominate play and have most of the ball, isn’t there an argument to start him in that role?

I take it you don't actually know how good Thorne is? And before you pipe up about his injury, he dislocated his shoulder - it is totally unrelated to his previous. If George Thorne is fit, he is better than ANY of our midfielders. It's borderline disrespectful to see him as a 'backup' option. He would walk into any side in League One.

I take it you weren't at the Newcastle match?

I see your point, and agree with you, however, we've got so many players struggling with fitness issues, that I feel we have no choice but to rotate the squad, and start using players like Thorne, Kelly and Agyei and Hanson, otherwise how are those three gonna gain any match fitness anyway?

Players need resting, maybe even Hanson could get a game at right back, and move Long to left back to give Ruffels a rest?!?

None of it is ideal, but needs must and all that

"The biggest thing for me was to come somewhere with someone I trust, someone that trusts me, would allow me the opportunity to prove my ability and my fitness. "

It`s those unseen things that "we" don`t know about....... and he`s a free agent in Summer at the age of 27!
