General Mackie

I've been saying for ages that we need another striker, a big target man who can give us options. I still don't understand why JM starts in front of MT. Taylor has scored 10?goals this season already whereas Mackie has only scored 2 all season. We have a recognised striker who doesn't start. Really strange, unless there are mitigating circumstances surrounding Taylor that we don't know about. We must start with Taylor, Holland and Browne tomorrow night and I would go as far as saying even have Agyei on the bench instead of Mackie.

Have to agree with most of the posts on this thread. I like Mackie as much as then next man, but he just simply is not a goal threat. Playing him ahead of a fit Taylor is ludicrous and should never happen again
And I would now add that he shouldn’t start ahead if Taylor or Browne as the latter could play as a striker.

Agree ... Agyei should be given a bit of a run, even if its initially off the bench

Mackie still has a big role to play IMO, albeit (also) off the bench with his shithousery giving the opposition something to deal with in the last 20 mins, if the opposition are defending they cant be attacking ,

I would like to see Taylor starting more games

always been a problem for me sorry never rated him, just kicked off Saturday and he is rolling around/time wasting committing stupid fouls in a game we need to win he hardly had a touch of the ball when he did it was poor! if he concentrated on football it might be a different story but I very much doubt it.

That a different argument around what Mackie offers rather than why he started. Mackie is limited, we all know it, KR knows it...that ms why we are looking at getting a 3rd striker.

My point is that with the schedule Taylor can’t start every match so we need to rotate, with two strikers at the club options are limited

Three important games in 7 days, yes, why shouldn't he be able to play 90 minutes in all 3 ?

If Liverpool had Man City, Chelsea and Man Utd in 7 days they'd play there famed front three in all three. City would play Sterling in similar circumstances and Rashford would do similar with Man Utd.

We're Oxford United, we aren't in the Champion League. The lower league football world has gone soft if a striker can't manage Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday.

Its all good running players into the ground if you have a squad that can fill when they break down. You play Taylor in all three matches then is out for weeks because you’ve flogged him, is that worth it?

KR is managing the squad

@Shosho I'd really like to see a data infograph put together, comparing Mackie and Taylors contributions. Chances created, goals scored etc.

I know it would be telling many of us what we already know but it would be nice to see, visually.

We all know what it will show us. I’m not a huge Mackie fan, I realise he has his role but Taylor is superior in most ways - better at holding up the ball, creating, finishing, aerial...but we have two strikers so no real alternative but to rotate.

The most interesting part of the Taylor shot map is how he attacks the back post and pretty much only shoots from the 18yard box with a load on the 6 yard box. With Holland/Browne/Fosu now supplying Taylor *should* have a lovely time

Very true - I think Agyei has the attributes he just needs a loan
or ( for Agyei) a confidence building run in the first team, even if its regularly starting off the bench initially
he's stong, quick and not afraid to 'mix it', he just needs a bit of confidence to get him going I think

He talks a good game does Mackie but he's in the team to score goals not wins up the opposition and concede free kicks.

I still believe ONE up front is not enough. It allows the opposition to use three at the back (as Ipswich did and others have) and the extra man to stifle our creative players resulting in a poor service and opportunities for the front man - whoever he is.

I can't understand why KR is persisting with Hall on the bench and not Agyei.

We now have other wide players in the squad to play Halls position, but no other forwards.
Also, Hall won't be here next season, but Agyei will be.

We are 5th in the league and gave a squad based on playing a 4 3 3and 1 with 2 supporting.
I would be amazed if we started playing 2 up front.

Based on yesterday's game, the same could be said of Matty Taylor*. Just maybe the weather conditions affected Mackie's game on Saturday as well.

*I am not actually saying this about Matty Taylor.

I wouldn’t be to sure on that, from what I’m hearing from a people in the know they believe they’ve made genuine mistake in signing Agyei (bar his pace they haven’t seen much in training at all, specially if Hall can be on the bench ahead of him you got question that ?) possible loan or permanent maybe on the cards

Is Hanson a genuine mistake as well!?
As far as Mackie goes, we need another striker who can actually get on the end of things. I don't see a reason to give Mackie another contract. Upsetting the opposition is just not enough.
