What if we accepted a bid for Whyte because we'd had one accepted for Browne?
well yes there is that although tiger is reported to have said get Browne at whatever cost and not get browne and we'll sell whyte.

If it happens, not a bad bit of business for both with him being here a year or so. I don't want him to leave, but if someone pays the right price, that is football. We'll do the same to some other club soon, presumably.
i thought so many fans thought this was the way for us given many keep talking about players value to sell on before we even sign them.
certainly this was said when i've suggested that just for once it would be nice to keep a squad together with the odd tinker here and there and actual have a good go at it.
Well, Eales will be.I don’t think anyone would argue if:
1. We hadn’t bought anyone, but someone came in with a silly offer like £8m for Whyte
1. We sold him for £3-4m and bought in 3-4 other good players like Browne, that £500k CB, a striker etc
But if we sell him for £2m and don’t get anyone in, how can anyone be happy??

We don't know what is included in the £2 million. Chances are it will be the up front money, with more cash for appearances, etc, etc. It's not ideal, but not a crisis point at this moment eitherIf the price is right. That means a lot more than £2 million. How about the £4 million as quoted by KR.
Still be a disaster right before the start of the season but £4 million is a lot of money for OUFC

You can bet your bottom dollar several people will spin it positively - my money is on " we're proving to be a place where players can develop".I don’t think anyone would argue if:

Of course, but that's the nature of the beast. It does prove he was a good risk to take last year.don't forget his former club will get a nice chunk
What if Gav forced the move?
We could hang out for a decent price! I accept we are a selling club - almost all are - but IF we selling him for half of what it was indicated he was worth then that rings the cash-flow alarm bells for me (despite the grandiose claims of bidding half a million here and there for players. Ones that don't sign). If the player has indicated he wants to go, there is sweet fa we can do about it. We aren't big enough to force a player to sit in the stands until he decides he wants to stay
The problem is, if, that price is what the market is saying he's worth, we cannot do anything about it. Ultimately, the power is with the player and the clubs are along for the ride. I don't agree with it, but that is the reality of where modern day football is.We could hang out for a decent price!
