Tariqe Fosu

Charlton fan here
Tarique was superb in the 17/18 campaign, under robinson he played as an inside winger, where he used his trickery and pace to effect.
this season however he started off the season with a red for headbutting someone and it was downhill from there, 2 goals playing as a 'Number 10' all season saw him demoted to not even in the squad with players such Aribo and Williams replacing him.
Despite his poor attitude and the fact he is pretty injury prone on his day he can be unplayable cutting inside from the left

Takes a good pen too

So Robo, will get him back on track I'm sure.

bit confused reading ox mail article. says Charlton offered new terms just so they could get compensation. does that mean we thought we’d get him cos would’ve been out of contract but now have to pay something. is that what’s holding things up?

OUFC would have always known there was compo to pay because of his age but only if he was still under contract. OUFC would have been aware that CAFC would give him a new contract to get that compo. All very sensible on their part.

shame we couldn’t do similar with Nelson

We did it with liam Sercombe.

That was slightly different (extra year's option on his contract in our favour for a player who was >25 years old) but yes, same principle.

Needless to say Charlton couldn't have offered terms lightly; I assume they would have had to match the terms of the contract we offered. So, to risk keeping a player they really didn't want for a further two years on the payroll, for the measly sum of £50K or so that we'll have to compensate them...is really quite risky.

They have to offer the same terms or higher otherwise everyone would offer low terms to get compensation.

Surely this all depends on whether he signed that contract. If not this is all irrelevant apart from a development compensation fee.

If he signs the contract hes the same same as any other player,we have to pay the transfer fee,as it stands they are offering the contract instead of just releasing him for nothing, that way they get compensation, the contract has to be of the same value as the last one though. If they just released him, theyd get nothing.

Precisely - but what I'm highlighting is duration as well as salary.

i.e. if we've offered 3 years and they're not sure they want the player, it's a massive risk on their part.

Great potential for skullduggery when talking contracts!
