Transfer News incoming ooc player ?

been training with Cardif apparently, so although not match fit, fitness levels may be ok. could be problems with wage demands though

Yes you would think so but apparently he was about to join some tin pot lower league Dutch club but it fell through. I guess these guys need to ask themselves do I want to play football or sit about posting on Twitter and insta.
Personally i’d Take a pay cut and drop a couple of divisions to prove myself and maybe get a bigger club at the end of the season. At the very least they’d be earning a bit and still playing.
My only concern is why haven’t they got clubs? As KR intimated we don’t want no big time Charlie or ‘personality’ upsetting the dressing room.

You really do have to think why there is any player who is still a free agent at this time of the season! Surely the idea that there is a fit, affordable, enthusiastic, available, quality, free, team player just out there ready to step in to our slightly depleted midfield is pretty optimistic?

A quick look who signed for who from Oct-Jan last season in league 1 may give some ideas of what to expect:

Karl Henry - Bradford - 4 games from Nov to Jan - released
Paul Caddis - Bradford - 27 games Nov - Jun
Shaun Cummings - Doncaster - 4 games Nov-Jun
Yasin Ben El-Mhanni - Scunny - 5 games since Oct but still there
Sebasien Bassong - Peterborough - 1 game - Oct - Jun?
Steve Davies - Blackpool - 2 games - Oct-Jan - Moved to Hamilton in Jan

From that (thanks) it looks like only one - Caddis - was much of a signing. And Bradford released him at the end of the season, sp presumably he wasn't that brilliant for them!

So if this year is anything like last year, slim pickings indeed.

all this talk about getting a midfielder (which i wasn’t too sure we needed until Thorne got injured + Woodburn &Hanson) but could we do with cover at lb?
if anything happens with Ruffels we could have problems there.
i know Berkoe is a left back but can he fill for a few games if needed?
i guess the ideal person would be someone like our Josh - able to play both positions ?

Sam Long can play left back.

Well, I think for some of these guys, you've probably answered your question already. It's money, money, money.

If you're a guy who's played for Premiership or rich Championship clubs for a long time - someone like a Joe Ledley - then you've probably been earning 25k a week for years. But there's only so many spots at so many clubs for players at that wage, and those were all filled up over the summer

A League One club comes an offers you a job for 3k a week - and you know it's going to be just as much hard work and effort, just for an order of magnitude less money.....I can see why, if you're thinking $s rather than football, you might think "OK, I'll just keep training with Cardiff and maintain my fitness, and hope that there's an injury crisis somewhere so I can get a contract on the sort of wages I'm used to"

Sign a deal with us - even if it's only until January - and you're ruling yourself out of that kind of payday in the short term.
And it's pretty rare for a 32 year old to drop a division and then go back up in the future.....so you're likely accepting that those kind of paydays are gone for good.....might be something you want to put off as long as possible if there's massive mortgage payments coming up...….

Jen Karacan has been training with us this week.

Free agent. Had spells in Oz recently and previously with Millwall and Reading

He was training last summer too, or very close to signing I thought? Does your return mean more good news, EC? Or am I asking too much...

Didnt he nearly join us last summer before opting for Millwall?

Believe so!

Hello, EC yellow is back, must be something happening.
After seeing the stats on ooc players joining clubs this late in the season I’d rather blood some of the youngsters and take a chance. Who can remember joey Beauchamp going on loan to Fulham and saying he wanted a move (how ironic) if he didn’t get a game in our first team, and more recently Shandon Baptist, throw them in at the deep end.

Listening to KR on the way home he was quite cagey! He said there would be a couple of triallists in the team on Tuesday against AFC Wimbledon at the training ground.
