Ex-Staff A Bristol City Fan - U's Thoughts On Liam Manning

The Brizzle City forum are not pleased with our ex-manager

It could very well happen next week if we loose against Oxford. They will be gagging to show LM what they can do and will be well up for it, I really can't see him making any tactical changes that will make any difference to the way he plays, as mentioned on here many times, he doesn't seem to have any plan B, C or Z.
Problem is, who do you think they will go for next?

You’d like to think that given the backing he’s had in the summer, local connections to the club and the plans Oxford have would be enough to keep him here if they did come knocking. Manning didn’t really have any affinity to OUFC at all. He did what he was employed to do and that was keep a football club up from almost certain relegation.

I hope he's fired sooner rather than later- cocky little t**t. And if/when he does get fired, I think he'll find his decision to run away from us has backfired on him. He won't get a sniff of a Championship club, and most L1 clubs won't touch him- they'll be concerned that he'll skip away again as soon as he has a decent run of ten games or so. He did a great job for us- for about five minutes, he got Franchise into the Play-Offs, but was then taking them down- so if he flops at Brizzle City, his CV isn't looking as shiny as he would have you believe.

Could be the second manager to be toast after playing Oxford inside a week.
We must be so annoying to play against

Strange that no-one mentions playing McGuane in their thread on picking a team for the game.

I’d have thought it was the ideal game to start him

I think Mannings day's at Bristol are numbered. The fans don't like him nor the tippy tappy or no A& B plan football.Just like I did, I hope we put another nail in the coffin. Preferably the final one...

I felt that under Manning we tended to shut up shop a little when we were ahead.
Totally different under Des.

Is it funny how such a non-descript manager in Manning has become the panto villain for this season and why Bristol City home or away was the first fixture we all looked for.

If he'd just said after the Maidenhead game 'I'm not going to talk about that right now' when asked about the Bristol City rumours and if he'd popped in and said goodbye to all the players and staff when it was confirmed that he was leaving, I don't think anyone on here would give two hoots about him.

Everyone understood his reasons for leaving and that's all fine (more money, higher level) - it's simply the manner in which he left that makes him so snakey.

It would be very sweet to pile more pressure on him and to see if his motherboards and internal circuitry can withstand it.

Let’s be honest, the guy saved us from relegation and then had us flying before he left.

That said, you don’t f**k off with the job half done. We were royally fucked over for months and fell well down the table before Des got a grip on the team and clawed it back.

Now we return to the scene as a championship club in our own right.
That snake undid all his good work by leaving and he is going to get some serious s**t coming his way.

No secret that I am not a Manning hater, in fact I’m incredibly thankful.

But… It would be more than satisfying to beat them on Saturday at their place to crown a frankly remarkable chain of events since he left - 7 points clear of his new club having parted while a whole division below. It would be just football all over.
It's a fair point that Manning is part of our story and maybe the league position we were in at the time convinced Des to make the long journey over. We also have him (but maybe mostly Ed W) to thank for some of the quality players brought in - Harris, Leigh and Rodrigues are the obvious ones.

I feel totally indifferent about Manning now which is a testament to how much joy Des brings. I'd probably feel different if I was in League One.

Couldn’t agree more.

If Manning is indeed sacked after Saturday’s loss to us (😃) then it is what it is - it doesn’t change that he was instrumental for us over a 6 month period that directly impacted where we are today and it also doesn’t change that he was completely entitled to take that job when it came along.

Will I sympathise? Only man to man as someone who also has a young family, but I don’t get £2m or whatever for getting sacked like he will. That’s the extent of it. I completely understand his choice, the rest was over to him and if it doesn’t work out then tough. I’m only interested in what he did for us which was significant. Anything after that is on him and of no interest to us. We’re fine which is the main thing.

I won’t boo him or throw an inflatable snake his way, I may just smile a little wider if we win.
