Home Match Day Thread +++ 19/01/2019 OUFC v Portsmouth Matchday Thread +++

Probably the same reason you were allowed to leave the ground early, who can stop you leaving early?
You would have thought the OB would have realised what may happen and prevented them from leaving....but it’s TVP probably hoping to get their arrest records improved.

Few pockets of Pompey in the ssu towards the fence end. Even jumped and celebrated when they scored. All this is front of stewards who did nothing! Also when they were leaving the ground, they were singing Pompey songs on the way out!

Think of them trying to console themselves with the chanting walking out.

Yes; I don't think that decision did them any favours. I'm glad they weren't attacking their own end in the second half; I'm sure it made a difference. How is it we've managed to have it the other way round so often this season? Attacking the East Stand in the second half SEEMS better, but not sure it is ...
@Shosho is handy with stats and the like, if anyone knows(or can find out) whether the u's actually do better in games when attacking towards east stand in 2nd half I'd say shosho can?

The other reason it feels particularly frustrating for OUFC is that we made such a horrific start. If we’d just picked up a few more points in those first games, we’d be approaching something more comfortable. As it is, we’re still scrapping away down there.

How many points have we taken from bad/poor/below average performances? I would say around zero, that’s why we are down there, we have to play well to get something, but at league one we won’t be doing that every week so we need to find a way to be effective when we are having off days. A goal scoring forward would obviously help, it’s probably reflective of that that we haven’t managed to nick either an away win or a home draw, that’s probably 5 or 6 extra points if we manage to start occasionally doing those two things.

They were the Pompey walking football team who had been playing in the morning. All 50 plus and not a bad bone in their bodies.

Yup could probably work this out!

walking around the east stand car park there were a few families where each parent had a different shirt on 1 being Oxford and 1 being Pompey. they all were heading towards the North Stand. I wonder what side they sat on? Could it of been these Pompey shirts that people saw? From the SSU all I could see was a group of Oxford lads trying to cross over to the Pompey side. 1 actually made it before he was dragged back by the stewards and escorted out. I don't know what he would of done if the stewards hadn't got to him.

Regarding this opposing fans issue - when we played Coventry at home in 2016 I walked past the away end and saw my old boss who I get on with very well and is a Coventry fan. I shouted his name and shook his hand, had a friendly chat etc. All the time during this I was being urged to move on by a jobsworth steward!

Reminds me of back in the glory days we always seemed to have a better record attacking down the slope towards the LRT in the first half, then defending the second half with our fans behind the team. Wouldn't surprise me if there was something in it.

I know we attatcked the OM Stand first half when we beat Plymouth also. I don’t think there have been any other games this season that we have attacked towards us first.

Okkkkkk. Quickly just looked...

We’ve played 14 matches at home, winning 7, losing 7, no draws.

We have shot towards the Oxford mail in 3 of those 14 matches in the first half.

Vs fleetwood (lost 0-2, 0-1 HT)
Vs Plymouth (won 2-0, 1-0 HT)
Vs Portsmouth (won 2-1, 2-0 HT)

Interestingly, of the 7 matches we’ve won at home we have been winning at HT in 5 of them.

I have missed my own point? I think not. Please tell me what danger said young lad was in?

Firstly there were Oxford lads who charged down the stand and had a go at some foreign visitors because they did not celebrate our first goal and this was right near this lad and the people he was with.

Also my point was that those with him should have showed more sense and told him to not wear a Pompey jacket and Pompey hat in the home end as someone could have turned on him and I would not want to see that!

I was sitting just behind the foreign (French I think) group the Oxford fans who 'had a go' were just shouting at them to get out of the section, there was no violence, just to make it clear

Never said there was, but jumping over seats and surrounding them is hardly reasonable behaviour
