New Stadium Plans - The Triangle - Planning

I mentioned in my planning comment that the road was to be restricted rather than closed, since buses and bicycles would still be allowed along it. I should have mentioned it would still be open for the emergency services too. I also pointed out that even if the road was restricted for a total of 90 minutes per home game for 30 games per year, then the road would still be open to all traffic for 99.5% of the year.
These are the types of facts & posts we like. Brilliant 👍

At least he had a reply, my email to my LibDem councillors last week (county and district) has predictably been ignored.
I dread to think about the amount of collective blisters in the bottoms of these Lib Dems councillors with the amount of fence sitting they've been doing.

Jokes aside, was their plan all along just to see "how the wind was blowing" ? How can you vote for someone who is so easily swayed?

I wrote to Cllr Levy and have not had the courtesy of a reply yet.

The completely justifiable accusations of hypocrisy aimed at Cllr Gant will inevitably damage by association other local LibDems concillors and prospective candidates. Gant’s comments were incredibly selfish, I’d be pretty pissed off if I was a local LibDem.

For the majority of LibDems I’ve always thought that would be their position, it hardly conviction politics, but that’s typical LibDems for you.

Gant’s comment were selfish, in that he’s just thinking about himself and whether he can get voted back in next time, he will need the North Oxford nimby vote, rather than doing and saying what is the right thing for the whole Oxfordshire community and the greater good.

As I said previously, other local LibDem will now be damaged by association.

Indeed.

Gant has truly thrown them under a bus (which would still be running).

I used Facebook to voice my concerns to Cllr Miller and his people got back to me. I didn't agree with what they said but they did at least take the time to address my concerns. Would have been better if Miller himself did the replying, but I'm guessing he's too busy chatting to FoSB

Perhaps using social media might get a reply from Cllr Levy?

And not diverted, unlike what his statement seems to suggest.

Gant can barely run a choir, let alone a complex Transport system in a city with many geographical challenges (mainly rivers!) such as Oxford.

The frustrating thing is professionals within his department at the council sensibly recommended the time limited closure of Oxford Road but he over ruled their professional expertise.

Gant's clearly an intelligent man but even he should listen to expert advice.

As someone wrote elsewhere - Gant thinks he's the king of Oxford.

I suspect the bulk of these local politicians are completely taken aback by the level of (justifiable) scrutiny they now find themselves under.

You have to remember that local politics typically exists in a tiny vaccum, the councillors themselves often just cosplaying some wet dream of doing it on a national scale and trying to climb a greasy pole - whilst those in the community who fully engage are often simply the members of the public with the most time, money and energy to do so (the venn diagram of which overlaps significantly with 'nimby').

These people are used to, and entirely comfortable with, their low level meetings, hustings, canvassing and general politicking - that for 99% of the time requires them to do very little genuine engagement with their constituents.

It changes with something as significant as this. Inboxes over-flowing, replies on social media, being held accountable for previous comments and any hyprocrisy. This is democracy in action.

You can see from the above LD comments that there is a nervousness and reticence to outwardly opposing the stadium where once there may have been forthright confidence in doing so.

These people are fallible and can be persuaded.

So keep the pressure on, and keep reminding these people that they serve us.

Spot on. I remember very well, the wisdom of my father. A local government officer himself (a senior officer) he often expressed his dismay and frustration with OCC and local politicians. Nothing changes, we still have folk with little or no expertise making policy and decisions based on little more than their own pipedreams of political ascendency.

Gant has obviously "gone rouge".

Councillors do not usually comment on planning applications in their own name, it is customary for the council to make it's representation as a body.

I can only conclude that the council's views are contrary to those expressed by Cllr Gant.

That, or he's so arrogant that he thought no one would notice his outrageous hypocrisy.

Morning all I've had a very encouraging email back from my councillor Duncan enright

Thanks so much for writing about the new stadium. I completely agree with you. Particularly if we make it through the playoffs and into the Championship, our club needs a stable future home which meets its needs (plus the current stadium is not fit for purpose).

You will be encouraged to know that Labour councillors are of one mind, and agree this needs to progress with all speed. We are very frustrated at the slow pace by the minority Lib Dem and Green administration and will be arguing today for transparency and urgency behind the work on a lease for the Triangle site. Also I broadly support the planning application, though I am sure there are details to be worked out by Cherwell District.

Please keep in touch about this.

This is probably the most encouraging news so far. Love the way he refers to the club as "our club" shows thought and empathy. I am also encouraged by the reference to the "minority LibDem & Green administration" - Ambition on the part of Labour? I'm no lover of the national party but, if the local Labour party can get things moving, then great.

Keep at it @Billyox it makes a difference.

What I like is the personal touch not just a copy and paste job a lot of these councillors do when replying to emails

Indeed.

Gant has truly thrown them under a bus (which would still be running).

The same can also be said of Cllr Middleton and other local Green Party politicians and members, but for slightly different reasons.

Middleton’s creepy historical tweets, his disingenuous ‘courteously’ neutral’ comments, being banned from the nextdoor social media platform, the constant stream of disinformation, his association with fosb/KPC and the waste of local tax payers money on an irrelevant poll, plus the shameless attempts by fosb to get their legal bill paid by local tax payers.

It’s common knowledge in local political circles that he’s not liked or respected by other politicians, and that includes other Green Party politicians and members.

Middleton doesn’t represent the views of the majority of his ward, he only represents himself and his quest for meddling in local issues.

It was interesting to see that Middleton was in a mad rush to support Gant. They are joined at the hip.

Any local LibDem politicians or party members should think about that for a moment, one of your biggest cheerleaders is Middleton. Not a good look to put it mildly.
